As I get older, I see more and more of my father in my habits, thoughts and ideas.
If it wasn't for him (my father) and his views of islam and watan, I would have succumbed to life in the west. He often ranted about mulla's in the west on welfare and the generation of neo-Muslims knee deep in Interest (mortgages and fancy car loans), and a lot more, you know, what their kids were getting upto etcetc, TV pumping 'acceptable' indecency, and then these guys preaching to others. He educate yourself where you find better chances then return home.
So here I am, like my father, in many ways, returning home.

My father and my mother are very simple pukhtana. They are great. My father does not have any political views and no religious views. He is a simple Pashtun reads Imam ghazali's books and some other of the same type. He is neither an industrialist nor a businessman but a farmer who does not work in the field but takes care of it. Alhamdulillah he is a character man in my village, clean, modest, silent, harmless and calm.
I have my political views, religious as well though.Last edited by Friend; 07-23-2012, 08:11 PM.

I don't really knows my Dad's religious views since he is a just a simple muslim doing the normal rituals. He is not into political Islam as far as I know. I think his emphasis is more on personal relationship with God. He doesn't trust the mullahs too and politically motivated religious people too much.
My mother is a simpleton, she is naive and believes in the goodness of everyone. She doesn't care too much about politics or political Islam.
I am more of pragmatic person. I know the role Islam can play in bringing order to Pashtun society but I believe that no matter what political system is in place, the most important thing for the success of that system in brining prosperity to the people is how well the system is managed and how the power of the elites is restricted so to make it impossible for a select few people to get a hold on power. I think most human beings on earth want simple things, like health, security, education, justice, honour, integrity, equality, freedom and so on. I think any system based on these universal rights and principals can succeed in bringing prosperity if it is managed well. I don't know where to place myself politically wether a liberal or conservative. I thnk these names are just labels. People of all political persuasion need to be heard and can be used constructively for the good of society.
On the religious side, i am leaning more towards spirituality and improving myself, trying to undrestand and grasp the wisdom of enlightened beings, such as jesus (as), Buddha, Muhmmad (saw) and so on. I think all religions have alot of truth to them at the fundemental level such as bettering yourself, conquering your ego and fears and being as close to perfection as you can. I was born a muslim so thats why I am a muslim, there have been times where I have been attracted to other religions but I realized that they all preach the same thing. What is the point of converting or reverting to other religions since they all differ on minor points and perform slightly different rituals? I think religion plays an important role in society but religion can also be misused by evil people for their own good. Not all religious people are good people and not all irreligious people are bad people. Religiousty just shows how well a person performs rituals and observes religious duties but it doesn't show the goodness of heart. That can only be acheived through spirituality.
