  • Horses

Since horses are a very majestic animal and have played a huge role in our Islamic history and are spoken very fondly about in several ahadith.

The following horse was a famous Iraqi Arabian horse called stallion Tabib which won many races all over the Arab world and also outside it. Today it has many descendants and rich Arabs are paying huge sums to horse breeders in Iraq to import them.

That's the picture of Tabib from the 1980's and the person is Usama Abdu'l Aziz al-Nujayfi, who is the current speaker of council of representatives of Iraq since 2010.

    Some pictures:

Horses are very dignified creatures. Not just the Iraqi or afghan one's but all the horses of the world have this very admirable charm to them.

Arabian horses are fast and beautiful. But I dont like them. They are too short and too weak.

I like European horses. My personal favorite is the Dutch Friesian horse. Its a gigantic black horse. Extremely powerful and agile.

If you want to ride a horse that will make you feel like a king, buy one of these horses.

Even though buying a proper Friesian horse in Holland is not that expensive ( 4.00 EURO), keeping one is very expensive. You cant buy a barn to keep one there, or rent a barn. It simply costs too much. Otherwise I would have purchased one long time ago.

In future maybe inshaa Allah if I can I will buy a few and take them to Afghanistan.

I've seen Arabian horses. They were extremely short. They looked like a donkeys older brother. Must be some odd breed.

I've also seen quite tall ones. They looked much better. ( I only like horses that dont make me look like I am riding a donkey).

They should be left to wander off in the wilderness rather than chained and trained.

The one I saw was at a show where they would parade with all these fancy horses. It was here in Holland. The one Arabian horse they paraded with was very short. Dont know what kind of Arabian horse it was. But it looked like an oversized donkey. Maybe a cross bred, Allahu Alim. I am not an expert in horses. Cant tell what it really was. It was announced that this one is an Arabian horse. So I assumed all Arabian horses are this short.

Brother, this certainly sounds like an mixture or an completely different horse. I have figured out that many Europeans use name such as "Arabian" horse for some of their own races that do not resemble the original Arabian horse. Most Arabian horses in Europe are also mixtures. I know that Polish and Russian used to breed their own prototype of the Arabian horse used in cavalry and by the nobility.

This is a standard Arabian horse:

The thorough-bred Arabian horses I have seen have very long running legs and they stand taller and sleeker than average horses. I used to go to the horse races and these horses had the most incredibly shiny polished coats, with mains, tails and fur clipped in different styles. Impressive animals and very well looked after.

I've ridden an Arabian horse, but it isn't easy to control them going left or right the first time.

I too find the Arabian asil horse elegant and beautiful.
I think what shamlaK is saying is an exaggeration of the fact that Arabians are shorter at the wither compared to the english thoroughbred.
Dutch, Danish and German warm bloods (holsteins, hanovarians, oldenburgs, freisiens) are also amazing, powerful enough to go hunting(jumping) and tractable enough to train for dressage. Then there are the Austrian Lipizzaners and the Andalusian horse - especially those of the spanish riding school of Vienna, the horses do mounted jumps called caprioles.

I seen some nice horses in Mazar, tough buzkashi horses; some say these are horses of the steppes, Mongolian.
In chitral, and further in shandur i have seen some fine thoroughbreds, used for chugan (polo).

                            Only if I had the cash . . .

i have no knowledge of horses but I have always heard, for speed you need an Arabian, for strength a European. Is this true?

Oh and I hate Kyrgyz horses. They are extremely ugly.
