  • The word "paki" is a racial slur

There was a thread here earlier on where a lot of pashtun people were getting offended about being called "pathan" or whatever the terms were. However, some people here dont mind using the word "paki", the purpose of this thread is to school them regarding a fact that "paki" is considered a racial slur and is a very offensive term. Admin i hope you take due notice of this

1.(Primarily UK and Canada, sometimes the United States, New Zealand and India) a Pakistani or South Asian (or sometimes a Middle Eastern person). Within the UK, the term originated in Northern England, where a large number of South Asians arrived in the 1950s and 1960s. Used as a derogatory term directed towards South Asians (and sometimes Middle Eastern people), it is usually considered offensive when used by a non-Asian in the UK

BBC, News, BBC News, news online, world, uk, international, foreign, british, online, service

2.In India, on the other hand, the term is used as a derogatory term directed specifically towards Pakistanis.

There is a reason why Pathan is disliked, why is the word Paki disliked? What is derogatory about it?

"Yet to some younger Asians, it appears to have none of the baggage their parents would associate with it."
For most Paki is just the shorter version of Pakistan. Like Afghani = Afghanistan. Saudi = Saudi Arabia. Ya know? You can't really compare it to the "N-word" cause thats not used for people from a specific place but based on color. Kinda different, no?

No that was a wrong statement by this paper, i have family in england and im not a 30 year old uncle myself..meaning i am part of the young generation and i take a lot of offence to it just like my fellow pakistanis.. It doesnt matter what abbreviations Afghans or saudis use, and im not here to debate the research behind this term, if you were pakistani you would understand where im coming from on this. Anyways this isn't my word its categorized by the appropriate authorities as a slur and yes pakistanis are offended by it.

Anyways i hope this explains as to why its a slur

Since our respected Pakistani members are getting offended by being called a 'Paki' I have now added it to our censored list.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

So if Zazai said "pakistani flag" then the word "Pakistani" would be a slur too? Depends, right? You can't just take a word and turn it into a slur just cause in some cases it can be used in a degrading way.

                        I'm from Pukhtunkhwa, btw.

i wish i knew wat **** is. some people should understand that the usage of certain terms should be allowed if it's used for an educational purpose only. this thread serves no purpose at all.
