AMBASSADOR TO THE CLOUDS
The Ambassador to the Clouds informed me
that beyond the clouds there exists
another universe exactly like this one
but going in the opposite direction
Lily the lapdog taught me the language of
all dumb creatures and it turns out
they say the same things we do
only about 10% worth repeating
and that includes Shakespeare
“Sunlight through the goldfish bowl is
only half the story” says the
chorus of Daylight Sprites Society who
line up unseen around every daily occurrence
and see both sides at once
dark side bright side
“Mendicants who arrive on their knees get
served quicker” says Jiminy Cricket and
he should know since he’s about their height
“Romantic love doesn’t always turn out for the
best but how it wears out the
heart of its wearer is so worth the
wild ride even if it crashes”
says a sign posted on the Tunnel of Love
and inside you can hear both the
swooning and the crackups but
doves are always flying overhead
“If you’re going to spend so much time
chewing chew on this” says both
the hard facts of life as well as
radiant wonder that leaves the
chewer shaking with joy

both the heavens and the door
out of here so he’s worth watching as he
makes his way through the crowd
slowly evaporating like this poem at last
and vanishing entirely away
