  • When will pashtuns in Afghanistan outnumber those in Pakistan?

One of the usual argument of people who say pashtuns areas of Afghanistan should become part of Pakistan is the argument that there are more pashtuns in pakistan than Afghanistan. While this is most likely true due to millions of refugees going to Pakistan after Russian invasion and pashtuns of Afghanistan dying in 30 year war and generally low standard of life. In recent years many refugees have returned back to Afghanistan and when there is stability the Pashtun population in AFghanistan will surely increase. Does anyone have reliable figures and projected about when this is likely to happen?

This topic is for educational purposes before someone accuses me of creating disunity.

people go to far greater extents to prove their silly points these days. taking pride in a population crises is nothing in comparison when you actually think about it.

Why not? Pashtuns in Afghanistan own bigger areas in Afghanistan than in Pakistan. Pashtuns in Afghanistan are spread far and wide from Nuristan/Kunar to Herat. I know that the peshawar valley is more fertile compared to areas in Afghansitan but once the helmand irrigation water irrigation systems are restored those places will be fertile again.

I don't know the exact figures but the numbers for Pak are 23 million plus 4 million in Karachi and 16 million for AFG. KPK is not a big area and most of it is hilly and you can't grow much on mountains. AFG has more land but its not properly irrigated yet so yes its entirely possible. Another consideration is the lifestyle changes. The KPK folks will urbanize earlier and have higher literacy rate which means they will have less children and the folks in AFG will get religious government who will say give birth to as many children as possible, Allah (swt) will provide them.

Many afghans have a lot invested in KP side. Business, property and where they ply their trade etc. The ones that usually go back and STAY are the mohjar camp types because they use to get a resettling grant.

Most afghans that make it out to europe from KP side have started classing themselves as peshawaris. As they've got houses in KP or have been schooled there, its like they have become 1st generation KP'ers.

                            The question should be:

when will Pashtuns understand that no British Lord can come, draw a line with a ruler and impose it on them?

                            or

when will Pashtuns understand that Pashto language, heritage, culture and history is not only connected to Afghanistan but actually IS Afghanistan?
                            The only constant is change.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
