Can understand some arabic and also some farsi/dari

can also understand a bit of regional languages like Sindhi, Seriaki, Hindko, Rajahistani, etc.. but that's probably because of their similarity to urdu/hindi/punjabi

i have always meant to ask you this question...what exactly is the point of learning all those languages if you don't necessarily need or use them to interact with people speaking those languages? isn't it a great waste of time??

Many reasons behind. I had to learn some languages at schools (Russian, French), Italian and English I needed at my first job. Others are results of travels, living abroad and passion. I have many friends abroad, every day I write emails or speak with them. Plus, languages come very easy to me.

I also like linguistic per se. Some peole like reading magazines, watching TV or have other hobby. I like finding the links among languages, the same grammar constructions, common words, like the word "کال" - some time ago I found out that Polish word "kalendarz" (calendar) comes from "کال" etc.

Another thing - four years ago I stuck in bed for long time so I didn't have too much to do apart from reading and learning.

                        It´s German and means:

Doesn´t matter what you say, you will always be sweet like sugar.
                        The only constant is change.

                              Let me think....hmmmm, try this:

Mögen Assgeier sich an deinem verwestem Fleisch satt fressen; hör auf, das Wort an mich zu richten!

But I wouldn´t say that if I had talked to that person first.
