What is everyones opinion of dancing at your engagement of wedding party? What is your reasoning behind this...

In my culture, B & G dance at both parties, but its not the same everywhere, and dont forget I dont get offended.... so, let it begin...

Will you/did you dance at your engagement party and wedding and why/why not...

sit up straight, stare at your hands on your lap. don't make eye contact with ANYONE. that is what good afghan girls do.
that would be a big fat NO for dancing by the way.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

because i want to know what its like in other cultures.... i would have no reason to ask otherwise...

im not going to do just what my culture does, i have to respect both cultures and its very hard regarding dancing...

i am almost 50 and seen a few afghan weddings - men are separated from women, bride and groom do not dance but sit in the spot light. eat, men do attan (ONLY MEN), i dont know what women do on their side.
my reason, kaliwal reason - it is tradition of decency, respect, izzat, nang, and instruction from islam.

one westernised wedding attended in hamburg (kabuli tajik vs turkmen), men women danced attan together, boy girl boy girl, neck halters, strapless, very nice to look at but shameless, doing the 'aiste beroo' walk, mixed attan after, oh and the knife dance to cut the cake.

here is an example of how some afghans want to get married

May be you are talking about urban pashtun weddings. Here in rural areas groom doesnt "sit" , he is active through out wedding, manage and recieve guests and i have seen them participating in attan. They are not "shy" and dont "sit" on spot light. Its in punjabi weddings that bride and groom sit togather in spot light. Women do their type of attan in their own section. Men do it in their own section.
As for as i know most of the Afghan weddings in west are mixed.

so far i know they drag the groom and make him dance in a circle with his friends.

brides never dance on afghan weddings, its not considered respectful.

in some non pashtun weddings groom and bride dance on the dancefloor in a european fashion.

i woudl say if you want to feel and act respected dont go there girl.

you are right luffy, bride and groom do not sit together. and when i say groom sits, of course he meets guests, eats and gets engaged in attan etc etc i was stressing that it is not done together with the women guests.

well did you see the video, most are mixed in the west.

the wedding i attended in hamburg, next to me sat a guest, a progressive pashtun - but in hamburg, his daughter, circa 18, sat on the same table dressed in a 'little black number' - a western girls dress - it was disconcerting for me, she was attractive, i could not help glance at her, you know she hot like a dancer on pitbull video, but i was so concerned getting caught by her father, clocking her. man i tried hard to be to look at him or the wedding. that's not my idea of wedding.

I'm Turkish and it's actually considered rude to sit all night in my culture...:$

that is the kind of things you think about before you decide you want to marry someone from a different culture background. In your mind you should have drawn a line between lots of things because from now on there will be lots of things that might contradict your cultures.
Ask him. If he thinks its a good idea to dance then dance but keep an open mind so if he says no, you dont get all emotional on him. If you don't want to do that then see if your engagement dress has any sleeves. If it does then don't dance but if it doesnt then go ahead and dance.

In my wedding there was no dancing on the women's side, but there was music played. No idea about the men's side at my wedding.
