I'm planning on moving to Abu Dhabi for work. I was wondering if you guys would know a nice neighbourhood for living. So have you guys lived in Abu Dhabi? I hope its not too boring and not too hot in summer?Originally posted by al-arab View PostI lived in UAE (Abu Dhabi and Dubai) when I was younger before we moved to Hijaz (Jeddah).
What is it about Aryob?

I went there for a visit in september and the driver at the airport was a Turai Pashtun from Parachinar. How long ago did you live there? Is Mohammad Bin Zayed city or Khalifa A or B far from the island? or Al-khalidiya or al-bateen. I'm sorry i'm not too familiar there, just been there once for 2 days but most of my information is from google maps.Originally posted by Wahe Guru View PostI know that place well enough though it was sometime ago that I lived there! why? Plenty of Pashtuns there (or were there) mostly driving taxis but also doing some other things.

Mohamad Bin Zayed, Khalifa A or B are very near the airport and are on the main land not on the Island, its mostly locals who live in these areas and these areas are really rich, the houses are huge
Al Bateen is on the western side of Abu dhabi Island, this area is also very rich, with huge mansions, again mostly locals.
Al Khalidiya is where my dad lives, it's basically central Abu Dhabi, not far from the corniche. I think that is a good area to live
Also there is a tall building in Abu dhabi, which has many pashtun occupants, it's the building with Ibrahami (pakistani) Restuarant, I forgot the exact address, but you could probably ask a taxi driver, he would know.
Are you going there for work?Last edited by Karachi; 11-29-2011, 07:08 PM.

There are two Ibrahimis - quite close ... one is in Madinat Zayed (my old place), the other on Electra (7th Street).
I'm sure that Aryob is looking for a nicer part of town than Electra. On Fridays and Saturdays, all the Malayalees and Bengalis bachelors gather there and its impossible to walk and certainly not a place for women.

I'm in tansit and debating seriously which direction I should go in, especially since I planned to move to Canada (was offered a VPship), but got stuck in England where I'm having to house sit whilst my parents are in Karachi. My place until this past few months was on Airport Road in AD - one of the new apartments with underground parking and it was genuinely a place I called home.
I have moved too many times over the past few years and it begins to wears you down. I was offered a project in Kabul and I spent summer there. There is a more long term possibility of working there, but also something in Saudi has came up just a couple of days back. My hearts desire is to return to the Pashtun belt, but security, schooling etc. for my own family matters and that forms part of the decision making.
As some wise person said to me ... We make plans; Allah makes plans. And Allah is the best of planners. Jo kismat me hai, wohi hoga.

kismat to Allah ke haat main hai.
if I give you advice, (Saudi) is a good option if you want a secured Job. I have noticed in the other gulf countries there is huge turn over and people lose jobs quickly, but in Saudi since it's a huge country with a large market, the jobs are more safe there. My dad for example worked for one company for over 25 years.
The only negative side of saudi is lack of freedom, you might also get bored there
also yes as Dazahrojaam mentioned Canada is a really good option for familes, education and your over all secured futureLast edited by Karachi; 11-29-2011, 07:35 PM.

Very kind of you DZJ/Karachi. Can you guys arrange a driver to pick me up from the airport
?
Seriously, I was actually thinking of shooting over just after Eid. I have the PR card, but I aught to make use of it since it has a shelf life and then runs out.
I've kind of "done" North America. I used to live in Minnesota and the winters there were cruel, however over summer I popped over to Manitoba and it was good. Canada and that part of the the US are beautiful in the summer.

^ Toronto is very different from Minnesota, the winters are bad, but with time you get use to them
Toronto is one of the most multicultural cities in the world, The muslim community is huge and Afghan/Pakistanis communities are also very huge. Trust me, you will feel at home here.
