  • what do you celebrate?

When I meet Afghans and Pakistans visiting Dubai, I have observed their ways, many celebrate:

birthdays [singing 'happy bird day to you . . . ']
New Year (Gregorian), and go to parties, champaign popping and kissing
    father/mother day
    Valentine's Day

others celebrate christmas (for their children's sake so the children don't feel left out - yes indeed!!!)
    Ameriki independence
    Thanks giving

    Eid Fitr and Qurban
    Lailat miraj, qadr, miladan nabwi
    august 19
    Urs (celebrating wali's)

Me, me and my kor do not celebrate birthdays, new years (not even nauroz), father/mother days, valentines days, christmas, thankgiving, july4 - only the 2 Eids - the only celebrations.
Oh afghan independance day is enjoyed with reserved pride, and a shifty eye on all foreigners.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT PF COMMUNITY CELEBRATES AND WHAT IS NOT CELEBRATED

we celebrate birthdays for children under 10 sometimes. we have always been celebrating mother's and teacher's day. we have started buying my father a tie for father's day recently.
not a big fan of valentines day. nawroz, lailatul qadir, shab e baraat and both eids are a big deal in our family.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

I only celebrate the two eids.
Not bothered at all with these other celebrations.

My family however do celebrate birthdays (not celebrate but just buy a gift and cake), the kids do something for mother's/father's day and my mother makes aft mewa on nawroz although she doesn't celebrate it. But things like new year, christmas, valentines day, easter, pancake day and these things we don't celebrate.

warukay aw loy Akhtar are the biggest celeberations.

Afghan independence day (not so much lately since afghanistan isnt independent anymore).
Pesarlay is celeberated but not to extreme.

Mother and father day just cuz its anounced on tv so yeah.

birthdays, valentine, new year, christmass these are never celeberated.

funny how they would celeberate those days in Dubai even 4th of july wth.

two eids only for me, chief.

I do find it funny though on valentines day seeing loads of freshies bringing home roses from asda.
