so when the equation of a circle is x^2 + y^2 = 25, then the y intercepts are the same but one is - and the other is + right?

you will either have both positive x and y or both negative x and y.

in this case it will be (4,3) or (-4,-3)

since.....

4^2 + 3^2=25
16+9=25
25=25

also

(-4)^2 + (-3)^2=25
16+9=25
