I assume that in Islam a 'day' doesn't nesscesarily mean it being light since the Gregorian calendar is based around the movement of the Sun and the Islamic calendar is based on the movement of the Moon.
We still get night time and daylight but in Islam the concept of a new 'day' (in the calendar sense) begins with the sunset.
