I am very serious about Mullah Omar. Ever since I have read about him, and read his official public messages to the world, I have learned to respect him quite allot.

I realize why the religious leaders of Afghanistan have chosen him as our Amir. He is the most honest man in all of the political spectrum.

No. That's not true.

He was one of the initial taliban who left their mosques and attacked Gul Agha Sherzai and other warlords in Kandahar because they opressed people.

After a succesful uprising of the masses under the leadership of taliban like Mullah Umar, vast parts of southern Afghanistan was liberated. Then in the mid 90's there was a gathering of about 1500 major Islamic clerics from all across Afghanistan. They had a jirga and decided what to do to bring peace to Afghanistan. They had to choose a leader. So they all selected Mullah Omar and gave him their plead of allegiance. This is why he is called Amirul Mo'mineen. He is selected as the Amir by the ulema of Afghanistan.

Because he is chosen he is entitled to have the title. And that is why everyone calls him amirul mo'mineen.

For now I will take your word for it. I have not read much about him myself. All I know about him is what he did to Afghanistan. He was just at the other extreme of the mujahiddeen that took over Kabul in 1992. I will read the book Azmatullah gave the link to.

I would have to also read from other sources.

I don't find his approaches to be Islamic. He might have been sincere, but his approaches were totally out of line.
