Yes there is standard Pashto but because of the War in Afghanistan and the destruction of educational institutions many people especially of the new generation don't know how to speak it. Standard Pashto has to be institutionalized in order for many people in a society to understand it just like English is.Originally posted by Haris View PostIs there a standard pashto?

So can you speak this standardised pashto? And is there a website with information about this standard pashto?---
To advise others is an easy matter, the difficulty is accepting advice -- since it is bitter for those who follow their
own inclinations and desires.

No I do not, I speak the Pashto of my Qom, but many who were educated during the peace era do know it.Originally posted by Haris View PostSo can you speak this standardised pashto? And is there a website with information about this standard pashto?
Standard Pashto in Afghanistan is based on the Quandahari dialect( the sha pashto) and in Pakistan it is of the Peshawari dialect. I think it was last year Karzai invited Pashto literature Scholars from Afghanistan and Pakistan to form one standardized pashto for the whole pashtun society since pashto is now being taught in Pakistani schools and work is being done to expand the teachings of it.
I am not aware of any website that teaches it, but it wont be long that one will be created. They are now teaching standard pashto and Pashto poetry in US Universities.

I think the administrators should provide a link to a Pashto keyboard and should have some educational tools for people to learn how to write pashto.Originally posted by graveyardofempires View PostI speak read and write both
i think this forum should have atleast pashto keyboard so that PFrs can choose to write in Pashto.
Dont know about dari, there isnt any need for that in here.
btw english can stay aswell, but i will rather write in pashto.
I am one of those people that can speak it and read a little of it but can not write it. I would love to learn how to read and write it better that way I can expand my understanding of it.

At the beginning of the Forum, I put up an irregular class mainly to get people to read and write the language. I gave individual feedback to participants and my Inbox was full.
It's time/labour intensive and quite honestly the more I took over the Moderator/Administrator role etc., the less time I had.
I do read BBC Pashto periodically, and I use it sometimes as a standard for spelling etc. The BBC tends to spell کښی as کی for example. I'm now very used to the latter spelling as the one that occurs with most frequency on their website.
Media plays an incredible role in standardising language. English spellings prior to the invention of the printing press reflected heavy regionalisms. Electronic media went one step further and BBC radio in the early days had a very key influence in promoting a standard variation of the language.

I haven't checked all the links, but I did put up a similar note before. In case you need to get started with writing in Pashto, you can choose one of the following ways to get started:
1. Download and Install a Pashto Phonetic Keyboard by following this link - it adds the Pashto option to the bottom right of your screen (It says Panjabi, but – it IS Pashto in fact) and it means that unlike Option 1 here which shows you how to add the Pashto keyboarding option and has a scattered keyboard – this one reconfigures your keyboard so that Alif is A, Bey is B, Tey is T etc. You’ll be keyboarding in no time!
2. There's this auto-translator - it converts your English to Pashto. It has worked previously, but at the time of writing, it was being less cooperative – anyway, worth trying
3. (Probably the easiest, but not always very accurate) Download Pashto Word by following the link – basically it is a little tool that allows you to write in English e.g. Tor Khan and it converts it into Pashto تور خانLast edited by tor_khan; 05-21-2011, 05:15 PM.
