I've been thinking of this long and through on how to discuss it...but I'm at a loss since I don't technically know how it all works.
Planting Soybeans I believe will very much help Afghanistan as well as make (hopefully more fertile lands.)
Think of it like this: a lot of qalats around here have small irrigation techniques employed that provide water...that area of land is brown/dark brown/black meaning it has nutrients. You look to the other side of the road and you got barren sand...that runs right through your fingers.
How reliable would it be to transfer some sand to one place and the dirt to the other place? Then plant soybeans in the area where there is more "sand" then dirt?
We do it in the states, "rotate crops" every other year or thereabouts and the soybeans actually give nutrients back to the soil, namely nitrogen.
It's just an idea and I don't know how feasible it is...but others may know a bit better then me and can continue the discussion.
