  • To the Expat Afghans

In these times when Afghanistan is going through tough and challenging times but the institutions are getting stability slowly but surely it is the moral things are settling down with the passage of time, it is the moral and ethical duty of Afghans to do the following steps to contribute to the stability and prosperity of Afghanistan.

    1) Wiring of [Foreign exchange] funds to the Banks of Afghanistan so that the banks invest in profitable businesses and economic activity commences with expedited pace. The wiring to the Afghans in Pakhtunkhwa should also be wired through the banks of Afghanistan to benefit them indirectly.

    2) The expats should aim at establishing world class educational institution like Harvard and Cambridge which should be in the world ranking to win an academic prestige among the comity of nations. This is a very important and urgent task as there has to be an intellectual nursery for the future generations to take the reigns of power and guide the nations rightly using the ability and potential if polished in such institution. This institution ought to have political and scientific faculties and disciplines.

    3) A very effective media channel which should have a credibility in the atleast Asia to start with but should have the potential of competing with world class channels. It is a good omen that there are already very positive steps taken in this direction.Shamshad,Tulo ,RTA are trying their best to give the right projection to the Afghan cause. Still much has to be done.

    4) Entrepreneurs in the west, who are ethnic Afghans should start thinking about not only investing in Afghanistan but use their liaison with the western entrepreneurs to convince them to invest in Afghanistan. The investor should be welcome irrespective of his nationality, race, religion or creed. It is the investment of the entrepreneurs which determines the stability and economic future of a region in the modern worlds. Economic interests and policies dictate political decisions in the modern world.

    5) Afghanistan should give a top priority to her Cricket and soccer teams in particular and her other cultural games which could become a part of the Asia games in general like buzkashi etc. This is one of the wisest way to unite a multi ethnic and multi cultural nation.

    6) The expats should tie themselves up with the Afghan govt to stop the brain drain and convince the govt to give incentives to the Afghan refugees living abroad to get them settled in Afghanistan and seek the help of UN agencies for that in addition to the giving privileges and perks to them inside Afghanistan. The heart of a person is stuck where his home, kith and kins are in addition to person's investment and property.

    7) The expat Afghans should form Afghan think tanks and lobbies in the west and elsewhere as the most urgent task to do in order to safeguard the national interests of Afghanistan.

Good job.If Pakistani or Indian banks are there ,there is no harm. A positive competition is what is badly required specially in the private sector to provide quality customer service.

but wrora do you know how it works ? if someone makes a payment to habib bank ? do the dollars get transferred to the foreign bank or the central ?

Because if thats the case then pakistani banks over there will probably be collecting more remittances since they are the most easiest and best channel to move money between pakistan and afghanistan ya ?

And one more point i would like to add to that, i think Afghanistan can benefit a lot from Gawadar port..they should negotiate a duty free acess deal with the govt of Pakistan..Pakistan gave them a deal back in the days but they flooded the area with dope

If only Afghanistan had a stable government. Many Afghan entrepenuers who are in Karachi woud love to invest in Afghanistan but due to bribes, Its really difficult. My family is definitely helping out the Afghan economy, I can at least tell you that much.

However, Like another member pointed out Kandaharis alone own over 1,000 fried chicken stores in Tri-state area. They even have their own poultry companies.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

          There are two sceanrios.

Remittances from abraod should come to Afghan Banks ,in case their customer service is better and with the advantage that they would have multiple branches across Afghanstan. However the NBL and HBL are mainly for those Pakistani or Afghan traders who do their business between Pakistan and Afghanistan. In any case Afghanistan gets benefit as there are charges on transactions plus the currency conversion and the stay of the money in the Afghan accounts benefit the banks.
The foreign banks have a wiring transfer system which is standardised througout the world. It is good that foreign banks have branche in Afghanistan as the expats otherwise have to convert the money to Kaldars which is no contribution to forien exchange of Afghanistan.

Moreover Afghan banks should conversely have branches over here in Peshawar to attract more customers specailly millions of the Afghans refugees and their expat relatives. You need to be proactive to safeguard your national interests.I do not know why they have not come up with this type of common sense ideas.

It is an egg and chicken situation admin wrora.

If there is no investment ,there are no stake holders ,there is no economic interests hence there is no stability. If there is no stability then there is no investment.Hence darign steps need to be taken to overcome this paradox.

I do not think the govt is that unstable as it is projected. We have our friends who have relocated to Kabul with families and are quite happy and thinking of investing. The north is completely peaceful more or less however south needs a lil more stability.

I have this conviction that the more investment is there, the more stable it will get.
