342 incidents of violence against women in KP, FATA: report
      Staff Report

PESHAWAR: As many as 342 incidents of violence against women were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) from January to June this year.

Out of these incidents, the highest number of cases occurred in Peshawar, the provincial capital, followed by Mardan, Nowshera, Swabi, Kohat, Mansehra, Malakand, Charsadda and Dera Ismail Khan, said a report released by Aurat Foundation (AF), a non-government organisation.

According to the AF report, 257 cases were registered while 43 remained unregistered and there was no information on the first information report (FIR) in the remaining 42 cases.

The biannual report revealed there were 37 kidnapping cases, 161 murder, 54 domestic violence, 30 suicide, 11 honour killing, 4 rape/gang rape, one acid throwing, one sexual harassment and 43 miscellaneous cases of violence against women.

The number of married victims and survivors stood at 211, unmarried at 112 and there was no information on 59 victims and survivors whether they were married or single. The report said 59 victims/survivors were under 18 while the age of 48 victims/survivors ranged from 19 to 36 years and 15 victims/survivors were 37 and above. The information about the age of 260 victims/survivors could not be ascertained. According to the report, 222 cases took place in rural and 120 in urban areas.

The motives behind violence included family, property and petty disputes, illicit relations, refusal to accept marriage proposal, choice and forced marriages, old enmity and various unknown reasons.

The names of weapons used in these cases are pistol, axe, knife, poisonous medicine, kerosene oil, strangulation, suffocation, beating and acid.

The information on 296 cases was obtained from the media, 19 from Women Crisis Centre (Federal) and 27 from Mera Ghar (Noor Education Trust).

Some cases were reported in Khyber and Bajaur agencies. The biannual report said no cases had been reported from Batagram district and five tribal agencies - Mohmand, North Waziristan, South Waziristan, Kurram and Orakzai.

Shabina Ayaz, AF Peshawar resident director, said at the report launch ceremony at Peshawar Press Club that the Aurat Foundation wanted to send a message to the people through the media about the violence against women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the FATA.

“342 is a huge number. Our province has more murder cases than others in the country,” she said. Shabina said 14 more cases had been registered with the police this year as compared to the last year. However, she added, the registration of FIRs was not satisfactory.

welcome to reality ,these anti pashtun people should be dealt with now enough of the hospitality.

you can dance to their tune if you like and be satified with their justifications of attacking Pukhtane but me on the other hand have no time trying to beat sense into people who are here with an agenda "to cause problems between pashtuns for pakistan sake"..

Manzerah is absolutely correct. Pasthuns in Afghanistan celebrate all sorts of Persian occasion, and even try to debate how it's "Afghan" not "Persian" so they can sleep at night. They then attack Pakistani Pashtuns who are guilty of doing the same.

I don't support either occasions, since that would be hypocritical.

This video is shameless regardless of the occassion...

In Afghanistan, those that dance like this have bells and trinkets on their ankels.

In any case. If I were a pakistani pashtun I would think twice about comparing my self with the pashtuns of Afghanistan. For one, it is quality over quantity. Jews in total make up 15 million only and look where they are and where you are. Then again, Pakistan is only a few decades shy of being one generation old. Already the trends show that pashto as a language is in decline. In two generations, the pashtun populace of Pakistan will become extinct.
If pashtuns in Pakistan were Superhuman Warriors they wouldn't have become subjugated by the british. Their own native langauge would have become national. Rather English is the official language of Pakistan and Pakistan is the third most populace English speaking country in the world.
Amir khan, Saif Ali Khan, Amjad Khan, Salman Khan ...all these guys have afghan origins...but they are proud indians. Like wise...you are proud pakistanies who will one day bare very little resemblence to Afghans. Afghanistan will remain Afghanistan and Afghans will be Afghans. But I don't know about you guys.

Luffy....you enjoy bringing others to fight and quibble, while you sit on the sidelines. One moment you jump Pashtunistan, then to Pakistan, then to nothingness. You call out on other's credibility then cry when people do the same to you. I can safely say from the time you have been here, 90 % of your material has been divisive. So my advice to you would be don't waste anymore bandwidth.

@timbucktu, wrora that is because we have an immature people, extremely immature. They can't even call out their own problems, and are happy to put each other down. Then, we deserve what is happening to us. Instead of really looking at something they used this as an opportunity to one up each other. Che tsa pa zamung keegee kha keegee...ka da soch ao sam dam khlk wo nu daa wrazae na raathlae. Mature nations like Japanese can handle crisis after crisis but overcome it...unfortunately we have a long way to go.

@Shehbaz, public dancing like this is ddamthob to Pashtuns in general. However I will not mention that. The issue is that this army and state ruined Swat, and the fact they are dancing like this for little in return is sad. A little backbone is needed. I will tell you, people in other areas would have never celebrated an event if they want went through 1/4th of what the army did to Swat. Daasae asae gaddal yaw woch ddamthob dae. If they want to be happy for whatever day sure, but not in the circumstances of what happened to swat. It is really tragic.

How? I seen Pashtuns of all categories whether nationalist or not, dancing in public

This is the main issue, you think they ruined Swat? The people dancing in this video certainly don't think so, Infact they think they saved Swat from the barbaric militants. So the main point here to be noted is the operation of Swat that many people over here especially on this forum target. Now it's different for you and me you think they did wrong, I think they did right. Now, I make an exception I say they didn't do everything rightly they might have made certain mistakes but this operation step was necessary in order to hold Swat under the umbrella of the state.
Dam-tob day, now this is typical Pakhtun behavior as Ghani Khan says, "He loves music but has a great contempt for a musician" I can't do anything with it it's natural

Graveyard, even a 5 year old has the ability to swear, do you think that i am unable to curse your family? When you swear at someones mother you leave yourself open and allow the person to swear at yours as a comeback - in other words your allowing people to curse your mother, just goes to show the respect you have for your own parents and the way youve been raised up, i really feel sorry for you, theres no point in swearing at peoples mothers behind a computer screen where your all safe and in hiding. that is just weak. If you are a true afghan warrior and have pure afghan blood then you will meet me and tell me to my face. i dont think you have the guts, do you? if you do think you have the balls to face me then i swear by the lord let me know and i will give you my location, address and telephone number. Thanks
