Well it's important, or rather it should be important..but the concept itself is a bit hard to grasp since different people may have different interpretations of it..for some I think it is more definitive or atleast the need for it is more compelling and you tend to realize it's importance the more you get involved in relationships. so those kind of people desire it more and it's more important for them to be able to sort of branch out of everything and devote some of their time to themselves

And then for some people that space, that thought is always there ..they can reflect upon things while they are happening..reflect upon their own life and thoughts, they don't really need a definitive method or way I guess to find that space

I guess you can say that relationships are what you owe to others and this idea of personal and emotional space is something that you owe yourself

As to why we don't realize it when we are surrounded by people ? That again depends on people, on how deep they can see within themselves..Most of the people don't actually want that space since it makes them see a lot of things that albeit true only bring misery

Just wondering. You said there was a physical need for it.

I think what happens is that there's things relations would disapprove of. So being let off the leash once in a while is a relief. Also there's those bits of nagging that some people need a break from.

Why not trash the thread? Why not give the staff a hard time? Why not make this online experience for other members a miserable one? After all, displaying disobedience on this forum is becoming second nature.

I define it:

Physical need:

No other person is allowed in the room or on the bed beside me.

Emotional need:

No other person is allowed to talk against my feelings, ideas, behaviour, etc.
