    Re: Nowroz

I heard abut Nawroz only last year, when some Pashtun nationalist friends of mine were wishing me a happy Nawroz ... and I was like, what's that?

I think it makes much more sense to consider Spring the "beginning of a new year" than cruel, cold old January. :D Spring is, basically, nature's new year, anyway. It's more common in Iran than in other parts of the world, but for those who don't know, many, many Pukhtuns in Afghanistan also celebrate it.

I don't think it's "bad influence" of Iran/Persia. It'd be bad if we Afghans had to abandon a certain tradition of our own to accept a Persian one.

Happy Nawroz to those who celebrate it!

Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I thought we were created our own picnic.
i would like to know, have you been to one?

oh i thought you wanted to come along with me to the one i was already going to........thats okay i would love to plan our own. I know a really cool place to have it, we will have to plan the food who is bringing what, we need more guests, we need a performer....I am thinking about Mangal, and we definitely can wear whatever we want. Every year i usually wear one of my afghan dresses (yes i am aware it has nothing to do with the Nowroz) but you see plenty of Afghan girls wearing them

Sweetums, ignore the comments presented by folks who think that it's more Pukhtun to wanna shoot themselves because they are reading something they don't wanna read than it is to celebrate something like a new year festival by which they are losing NOTHING Pukhtun!

I really don't understand this insecurity of so many Pukhtuns. Gosh.

And, really, why DO they feel like someone's holding them by the necks, FORCING them to read a thread they don't wanna read or reply to a thread? Just ignore! Is it really too much to ask, kids?!
