No no no my friend, not true. I didn't like or dislike anything. I just pointed out the obvious in your argument. You claim humans are rational, I agree, and Muslims who practice polygamy has their rational for it which you happen to disagree with. So you see it's about "perspective". Your rational is different then mines. My world view is different then yours. Who is to decide which is better or worst? Don't label me sick or a bedioun, that ain't cool.

But polygamy was not only practiced by Arabs, it was practiced by everyone including Jews, Christians, Asians and Indians. Many still do. Heck some practice polyandry today. That doesn't make them sick, evil or bad. You sound like a clergyman.

Wrayun, what are your views on polygamy? Should it be practiced? Why is it looked down upon outside Salafi circles? For instance, every person we know who has married twice is not considered a 'good' person and is thought of as being just as bad as someone who has extra-marital affairs.

I'm neutral on the issue. I think those who wish to practice it under justifiable reasons should be allowed if all parties involved agree to it whether they be Muslims or atheists. You have to admit that even though many modern day nations have prohibited polygamy, it hasn't stopped both men and women from having extra-marital affairs. In fact in some circles many wives and husbands agree to this, and allow their partners to have sexual relations with others while remaining under the contract of marriage. They also claim to be very much in "love". Again, what is love?

If you love someone, can you imagine that person being with someone else? If I don't love my wife, I wouldn't care who she's with and we're better off divorced so that you and I can hook up. In any case, the answer is no because that sets a poor precedent in the sense that it gives approval to something that will, in all other cases, be harmful to the original spouse. Moreover, most, if not almost all women, are the type who don't deserve to be banned.

But isn't it possible to love more than one at the same time? I don't know about women but I'm sure most men do ;- )

Social trends are changing fast, now days more then two people share a bed, and that is considered fashion. You can argue against this when religion is being used to condone it, but how do you argue with those who don't believe in any God and still wish to practice polygamy? How do you tell them that it's bad, evil, wrong or immoral when sane, mature, adults agree to it?

Thanks for the fab posts.All these girls are pious, virtuous, and educated muslim women who can't even bear a mere thought of sharing their husband even though their husbands have the authority to do it.Their main problem is their self-dependence.If they were uneducated and dependent on their husbands, they wouldn't have been claiming here about slaying their spouse (I will do the same! :P).That is why it is a bad idea to educate your women.This reminds me of that expression on the face of the first wife when her husband goes to the room of the second wife and leaves her in utter jealousy and misery.Ofcourse, the marriage happened after the man took permission from the first wife.Oh well, it would be insane if she had said NO to him for very obvious reasons. The first wife developed cancer and died.The man married third time after her death because the second wife was too young and naive to take care of the household stuff.Both wives acted like typical "Bannye" and the man's son left the home and never came back.

The present world has taken thousands of years to change its thinking about women, patriarchy, science, church, slavery, and homosexuality.Yet women, whether beautiful or ugly, educated or uneducated,smart or naive, or dependent or independent are still not able to accept the idea of sharing their spouse.They are just plain jealous. Only if people knew what secular humanist stance on such issues was before spewing their ignorance on public platforms as wannabe neo-secularists cuz harr harr we iz kewl we iz atheists hee hee.

The very people that argue against same sex marriages and homosexuality argue against polygamy in the same context. In fact they argue that if same sex marriages are legalized, so will be polygamy. Its a fear mongering tactic that is used to suppress the rights of homosexuals when it comes to benefiting from state programs like social security. Polygamy on it's on is very secular and many secular humanists advocate for it. You can do a simple google to set yourselves straight.

The point behind my initial post was to show how narrow-minded it is to label consenting adults sick for agreeing with polygamous relationships regardless of whether it is a religious practice or not. In fact in a secular state such religious freedom should be allowed and not criminalized. It flies in the face of secular humanist values. That is no different then me arguing that homosexuals are sick because God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Even though both Adam and Steve happen to be sane, mature, consenting adults.
