How can people take sledgehammers to a shop window in broad daylight on a busy high-street and not make impact?

It takes a Super-Gran with the stamina of a cheetah to knock them down with a handbag before the camera all goes funny and suddenly crowds of people arrive.

Nope it was real....robbers sometimes dont wanna end up killing people u know. These seemed like robbers who just wanted a quick and easy robbery.

Maybe they wanted to steal the jewels so they could send the money they got from the loot to their favourite charity?

Maybe it's me, not understanding criminal minds, but if I were to give them advice on how to be a better robber, then being able to crack a window might be a beginning. Looks to me like their sledgehammers were made out of sponge.
