  • Are you my brother, are you my sister?

Internet is often like a fantasy world, it only interests me for research/learning and when it leads to something tangible, to a real relationship, with a real person.

Do you think this is possible? Do you think it is just nice words, or not so nice words, but do you think anyone ever really wants to meet any one else here? Face to face, and be real????

As an old song made famous though not written by Neal Daimond goes...

    "The road is long
    With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
    Who knows where
    But I'm strong
    Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

    So on we go
    His welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bear
    We'll get there
    For I know
    He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

    Bridge:
    If I'm laden at all
    I'm laden with sadness
    That everyone's heart
    Isn't filled with gladness
    And love for one another

    It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
    Why not share
And the load doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy, he's my brother

    He's my brother
He ain't heavy, He's my brother"

Are you my brother, are you my sister? Just one life time to learn, to care, to experience to do good, to meet others, to travel the path...together?

we are all born to bebe hawa and adam pbuh. according to islam we are all brothers and sisters. when you think about it we are not that different from each other either.

      DaZahroJaam-

You have mentioned in the past some of the reasons you come here, and about your contact list.....so the question is, if you had the chance to meet someone from this group who you have never seen before, would you want to?

no zayam i wouldn't want to met anyone. i get bored of the relationships i develop with people outside from where i know them from. my life outside this forum doesn't lack anything for which i could search in here. i don't come here to befriend any one or seek further knowledge about anything. i come here to forget things. so no souvenirs for me. no offense to any one.

if i ever meet any one from here in real life i wouldn't tell them i am a member here. or which one. and believe me when i say that no one will be able to guess it right either... so who would you like to meet??

Well I was pretty sure you would say that, just making sure. Who would I want to meet? There are lots of people I would like to meet from PF, like the Gate, and my teacher, and those who have shared their selves with me.

It is odd really, because this is a change in me from how I was years ago, I used to and actually in some respects I still am a loner. It is partly though because of the work I am in, for me to "put myself out there". Like the phrase:

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for by this some have entertained angels without knowing it."

          I never know whom I

I do not think I have many friends. In German they have words that English doesn't use so much, I do not know about Pashtu? In German we say, Freunde and Bekannte. Freunde are friends, and bekannte are acquaintances. I have maybe more of these. As I said my work involves meeting "strangers" and trying to raise awareness in them, I like speaking to people about rural Pakistan.

But this is not the only reason that I would want to meet someone face to face. The quality of a relationship changes when one has "looked into the eyes of another". I believe my purpose in life is to follow Allah, and I believe that Allah shows me life and purpose through all Creation, so in meeting people, in experiencing nature, I am learning more about Allah. This is what I want. I only pray that Allah will lead me, and not that I will wander off on some whim of my own.

Does this make any sense to you?

There is only so much one can say on an online space. It is the nature of man to draw quickly into attachment, and then, for some, it is something they search for in their lives. I think over time, the way we see the internet changes a great deal. For a child, or a new user, or someone whose purpose is to explore, the internet it a place of opportunity, of possibilities where they are blinded to understanding safety and drawing the line between entertainment and revelation of personal affairs. Undoubtedly, on spaces like these, where members interact with each other on a daily basis and come to learn of each others preferences, ideologies and states of mind, we do let out thoughts drift to a desire of knowing the face behind words, or the person behind the avatar. It is bound to happen and there is very little wrong in it. Extending these relationships can be dangerous, can be life-long friendships, which depends on the person behind the screen. As unfortunate as it may sound, in reality, the people who speak behind these usernames are different people, have different capabilities to those we put on display. Sometimes it hurts, when we give so much of ourselves, so much of our time, only to be ignored. It is a product of technology and of different priorities. If life doesn't give us the opportunity to sit within close reach of each other, you should always know that we still share a bond, a common link, a strong one too - that we are those who proclaim His oneness and among the highest level of creation. And that He reminds us that believers are brothers (Quran 49:10).

Zayam, I just want to share one of Franklin D. Roosevelt's quotes with you:

"Men are not prisoners of fate, but only prisoners of their own minds."

I don't want to sound cynical, but I believe we as people pass through this world alone. I don't see it as being a bad thing; it just means that the way we think and perceive things are totally personal matters.

Although interacting with others is enjoyable, our individuality is most important. We should strive to define ourselves, by ourselves, and not let those around us do it for us.

^Thank you Shamaar. Very well put.

My thoughts? Avoid giving too much of yourself away. You need something of yourself for yourself.

As for online spaces? We construct an online version of ourselves behind an Avatar. That in itself is a bit of an illusion, but the construct also applies to real life. We adopt different versions of ourselves at work, with family, with friends etc. Each version is an Avatar of sorts.

I would happily share a thought or two with people here in real life, but I'd pick and choose, and I'd come with the full knowledge that just like me, everyone here is just a version of what they say and what we think they are.

loneliness is a companion too. i am not a worshiper, an entertainer, a friend or a lover but i do have all of those inside me.

I do not use internet so much. I use 3 discussion forums and wikipedia only.

I have joined PF not to interact with people but to strengthen my english and writing power in english. I have account in facebook, but most in the list are my real life friends and i seldom check it.
