    Fashion show in Peshawar

    Zahir Shah Sherazi

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and the adjacent tribal areas of Fata have long held an image as bastions of religious conservatism. However, Thursday night’s fashion show, held by a private entrepreneur in Peshawar, which displayed the work of over 50 designers from across the country appears to be a sign of change.

Peshawar's elite were audience to an ensemble of products, ranging from wedding classics to formal dresses and casual wear.

The fashion show served to refute the notion that the region has no tolerance for modern notions of fashion and self expression. Some of Pakistan's top models, Rachel, Sana Raza, Kiran Chaudhry, Maria Chaudhry, Noor Khan and Saba had the rare opportunity to take part in the event, many of whom left with the message that ‘all is not gloomy back in KP and Fata."

      What about the other pics?

It seems miraculous to have such shows in the hub of Pashtun region which was or is under intense influence of Taliban and other religious extremists.

Such kind of events are a sigh of relief and something we can be proud of .

you are crazy and not of the good type either. i don't know how old you are but at certain times you sound very very naive if not mentally retarded.

ugly women being paraded around in clown makeup solely as sex objects to the amusement of the political and social elite is something to be proud of?

          the hell
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

What I may tell is not thought to offend anybody, please forgive if I should do so...
Using of this kind of events like a kind of "freedom of women" is a big falsity to me.
I don't even discuss that women back in your homes may have a lot of problems.
me honestly I don't know but if I should believe the talks you hold there must be defenitely big problems with women rights.
But that doesn't mean that disclosing a woman and making here an object a man stares on is giving women a chance...
And please don't tell that I am pervert, I am not intrested in these issues but i can defenitely see what real interests are among these fashion shows and what happns arround.
To close a woman inside a cloth bag and to use her body as object are both missuse of women.
Also the men these kind of events won'T bring anything good and moral.
What is better a man who keeps her wife closed inside a room or a men who sees women only as object of lust and doesn't want any responsabilities? To me actually none of both.

By all the number of problems ( deaths, child abuse, extremism, foreign invasion, lack of education and healthcare) making such events is even more than retarded, it is almost criminal.

Again, its my opinion as a complete foreigner and guest here. Don'T take my harsh words in an offensive context.
            I only share my opinion.
If you disagree, I am always open for hearing your points.
            All the best.

I am already some years here on PF.
I once used to have a Youtube channel, as I missed my friends from Afghanistan and was very intrested in Pashto language I searched a little on Youtube for Pashto videos.
I found a person who was/is a user here, he invited me and told me to ask the questions I should be intrested in.
So I came here, then left for long time and then when I was again back home and had more time came back.
Since then I use to visit PF time to time.

Please read the original post again and ponder over the points like
                        • Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and the adjacent tribal areas of Fata have long held an image as bastions of religious conservatism.
                        • However the fashion show appears to be a sign of change.
                        • An ensemble of products, ranging from wedding classics to formal dresses and casual wear.

                        • ‘All is not gloomy back in KP and Fata."

If other cities of Pakistan and the world can arrange Fashion shows then why not in Peshawar, the city of Pashtuns?

Fashion shows is an opportunity where your products can be showcased by both men and women. This is not exclusive for women.

If we enjoy fashion shows of other nations then why not Pashtuns should arrange their own fashion shows where others can see Pashtun professional models.

Fashion shows are not always vulgar or obscene. These are also cultural and commercial events.

The lights, brilliance, happiness, creativity, art, aesthetics, music, dance are elements which converge in fashion shows and this way obscurantism and gloom of terrorism of Taliban can be pushed aside.

No doubt she is not a beautiful woman or may be a shemale but what I focus is the event not the models. Other models are not that bad.

What bothers me isn't the event. But from one extreme to another.
