wrora i think its pretty important as you dont get married again and again, in our family a girl only marrys once, even if her husband passes away after a year its our tradition, the wedding dress is usually chosen by the blokes family as its from his side .Last edited by Guest; 02-04-2011, 08:51 PM.

I think it is totally up to the bride and her family to choose whether she wears a white dress, or a green Afghan dress.
Like i said earlier, in Afghanistan, if you are from Kabul City, Mazar-e Sharif, or Herat, it is perfectly normal to wear a white-western wedding dress. Whether you are Pashtun or not.
If you are from Laghman, Paktia, Arghandab, etc a white wedding dress looks odd, so the bride would wear our traditional dress.
Personally, i do not think an Afghan bride looks good in a sari.....its too Indian fashion to me, and our think our traditional dresses are beautiful and suits us well.
I know these days, wearing an Indian/Pakistani lengha or sari is practiced a lot for engagement dresses. I have seen plenty of girls in Kabul doing that.

i also don't like how westernized afghans put so much emphasis on trivialities concerning the wedding day, emptying their bank accounts and going over the top with regards to things that shouldn't even be important such as the little details of their dress, the stage, tables, music, exactly what kind of decorations and food and so on . some women become psychologically ill dwelling so much on the itty bitty details, when in reality no one should really care.
a truly memorable and blessed wedding ceremony encouraged through the sunnah is doing the nikah, having a celebration and inviting the poor and wealthy alike for food. no need for salons, limos, hotels, musicians, designer decorations and outfits, etc. but instead a procession in harmony with nature, your sanity and wallet.
