Oh, believe me, I woudln't worry about Qrratugai if I were you. I know exactly what to do and how and when to do it.

lol @ the jealousy part. Seriously? C'mon now, man. That's so un-Qrratugai like.

You made a statement that does not make sense.

Explain what you mean by expressing yourself. To whom are you expressing yourself? And what is the purpose of this expression?

lol. You don't demand answers from Qrratugai, young man I don't explain myself to people who don't want to understand. But perhaps you will as you read more of my posts in this thread on fashion, so just be patient.

              I was thinking something ...

There are many other different ways of covering the head as well. So lemme post pictures of the traditional South/Central Asian way. I love those styles as well. Sometimes, the chadar/hijab is just around your shoulders or your neck, and other times, it's covering your hair but lightly (like Benazir Bhutto).

              I like Butto's style. Here:

Shucks, can't find pictures for where the neck shows as well, but you get the idea. It's a common style in Afghanistan, India, Iran, and Pakistan.

Here's one, though, where the other side of the chadar/dupatta/hijab would go around the other shoulder:

              This is another style:

              And so on.

If you consider yourself a social animal aka homosapien then your self has to do alot with society. When one expresses of itself, his/her expression is according to expected response from members of society and decency marks are given to those who follow limits/restrictions of society. E.g i do not wear dirty clothes so that people do not assume that i have no sense of cleanliness.

Hijab is not for fashion or to look attractive.

Let me clarify my stance, since you seem to have misunderstood it. I said I do not do anything to please other people. That's a fact. I don't dress the way I do because I want to please someone or some people. Whereas you don't wear dirty clothes because you don't want people to assume that you have no sense of cleanliness, I don't wear dirty clothes because I don't feel comfortable in them. If I felt comfortable in them, I would do it, believe me, and nothing would stop me.

You see, some people live their lives for other people. They think the way other people want them to, they dress the way others want them, they DO what others want them to. For me, that's a big no-no. For instance, in a class discussion, I'll say something that is absolutely unacceptable to most people in the room -- unacceptable in the sense that people think it's "bad" to think that way or to say such a thing or believe such and such. While I used to do things and beleive a certain way just to impress people once upon a time when I was a dumb, shallow little girl, I don't anymore. I've grown out of that stupidity. Another example would be the ways that some of my friends and I dress so differently: I choose not to wear what they often wear because my own style works better for me. Now, if it shall ever so happen that my style will look bad to them and they'll have to leave me, then great; it won't be a reason for me to do what they do just so I can be with them.

But then again, perhaps I do do a couple of things to "impress" others.... you see, most of my closest friends are PhD students (mostly in religions), and so I'm often required to read the kinds of books/articles they read in order to be able to enjoy a good conversation with them. I do this partially because I feel like if I don't, I'll appear "dumb" to them, even though I myself am several levels below them. But should I call this a way to impress them? I wouldn't think so. I enjoy it, I learn a lot this way, and if my learning happens to impress them, then that's absolutely fantastic! BUT it's not like I won't hang out with them just because I don't know what they might be talking about much of the time.

So, yeah, I stand by my earlier statement: I do nothing to impress others. If they so HAPPEN to be impressed by something I do, great; but I'm not gonna go out of my way to make that happen. If a man is attracted to me because he's stupid enough to believe that a hijabi girl is a good girl, then so be it; but I'm not gonna WEAR a hijab just to attract a man. Similarly, if a man is attracted to me because he's stupid enough to beleive that a non-hijab girl is smart or good, then let it be; but I'm not gonna avoid doing something just because it attracts him.

This does not apply in many cases and certainly not to all people. Consider, for example, today's trend of skinny jeans. It's such a commonality that stores don't even sell non-skinny jeans anymore, and a girl looks almost odd if she's wearing another type of jeans. But for some girls, this doesn't matter: So what that such and such is the latest style? Why should everyone be required to submit to it?

So, no, you don't have to do everything in accordance with the expectations of society or other people, brother

                              Do you get my point?
