Keep in mind that European women wore long sleeved dresses that reached to their ankles only 100 years ago. And they always wore some type of head covering when outside their home, either a hat or a scarf. In Italy, until a couple of decades ago, women were required to cover their arms and head if they entered a catholic church - luckily, I am neither Italian nor catholic.

In the 1970s I wore mini skirts around town and for work and bikinis on the beach. And I looked good in both. Proud to be a Western woman!

Time moves on, it will stop for no one.

That is a rather silly assumption to make, isn't it? It is my understanding that this thread is about young girls and miniskirts. But since you ask, as a business woman I wear business suits swith my skirts knee-length, or I wear pants. At the beach I wear a one-piece swimsuit.

What I was pointing out in my post was that European women were covered from head to foot as recent as a hundred years ago, but over the next 50 years the hemlines of the skirts kept getting higher until, in the mid-1960s the mini-skirt was shown at a fashion show in London.

Progress will happen, whether you like it or not.

This "Random Visitor" cannot be TOO random --
why does someone need to infiltrate this site
                      to throw people's traditional ways
off kilter by bombarding with such statements ??

Who CARES what some Austrailian woman wears ?
                      This person sounds like a

                      NARCISSIST
                      with a damaged ego !

Why else would this person fill up post after post
                      with what SHE does?

                      Who could care less?

Go find some other forumto invade,
                      and stop disturbing Afghans'
                      nice traditional ways here.

if by progress you mean the disappearance of the G string ...then it would seem that we have made the journey full circle to our naked animal selves in the wild.

and it would seem it has happened so in the span of your life time...but still old women should be clothed for the same reason young women don't want to be clothed.

                          ^ - !!

In the 1860s when the women in the Court of Napoleon III raised their hemline just a few inches perhaps to below the ankle, from scraping the ground,
it was a big step that many complained about as indecent -- !
The idea was ease of walking in the huge crinoline gowns [the model for
today's Western wedding dress by the way]

The subsequent deterioration of all standards of dignified dress for women
was I believe due to the diminishing faith in God and role of religion in public life.

The Catholic Church was squashed by the DEMONIC French Revolution,
returned during the time of Napoleon III, but then was ground under the heel
of secularism which took over increasingly with each decade up to the presnt.

This means the worship of material things rose above any respect for God.
Therefore designers like Coco Chanel brought in the first daring hemline raises
without much opposition from any religious authority.

Hence the slide continued over the decades to the present...
religious authorities all being too cowed to be able to speak up
as the Church was officially disestablished in France in 1903.

Today only 4.5% of the French population attends Church Masses !

So thank God, Afghans are not likely to follow this sad and terrible
                          road.

I think they are a lot smarter than to make this disastrous mistake
to use even the height of Western culture, France, as a model in
                          ANY way !!

you appear to not know much about anthropology dear. because native peoples were naked did not make them any more animalsitic than people who wear clothes.
in fact a lot of what i have read shows that many of these native people were far more civilised than todays mass murderers and fascists.
i live in a country where the beach is one of our major activities. we have been wearing bathers and bikinis for quite some time now. i have never been harassed or raped at a beach, because to us it is normal.
it offends you and catya, though you choose to live in america, where this attire is the norm? don't go to the beach then, simple.

G string? Where did this come from? But if your concern is that naked humans are animals, you had better not visit parts of New Guinea, parts of Namibia or parts of South America. There are plenty of tribes around the world still that do not wear any clothing.

As to your comment about old women, can you define your understanding of an "old woman"?

                                hmm...

first of all gran'ma faye...appearances can be deceptive

Typically anthropologists refer to the people you refer to as "natives", as "primitive societies".
Reason being that primitive societies lack sophistication, as is exemplified by the lioncloth.

Secondly, in western culture, even the catholic church, in its high time, 500 years or so ago, sanctioned and financed pornography...that women now walk around naked on beaches is not an indication of a lack of perversity in society since men in your culture would also pay women to "strip" their cloths. Of course, in the absence of such facilities, the pervert gets more desperate. However, regardless of your own experience, rape is a common phenomena in western societies...1 in 6 women in the US. It maybe that it gets less reported in "burqafied" countries...and it maybe that in some countries prostitutes are so cheap and plenty that rape is not even worth the risk (china)... so your high minded attitude gives you the impression that ..ugh ..not your body...but the body of young women do not arouse perverse desires in men because they have somehow become desensitized from over exposure to it. But in reality...culture cannot change nature. And if culture imposes to constrict nature, as civilization often tries to do, then the repressed urges find other outlets to express the same desires. You have been fortunate enough to not be just be an outlet for strange men ...or at least we hope so.

So coming full circle...In canada there are no real beaches ...we have lakes and it's not the same. And summer's are short, and short shorts get worn for 2 months and thick jackets, mittens and tuques for 6 months in a year...so ...it could explain why the rape per capita is lower than australia ... but I am not saying it does
