I find them to be SO damn stunning, and I plan to buy several. Currently, I have only one ~hangs head in shame for herself~
It might be an Indian dress, but what most Pashtun females wear isn't any Pashtun either; it's just as "desi" (referring here to the shalwar kameez that's not Afghan style at all). And you get to choose how much skin to expose in it, if any at all.
It can be pretty covered.. I know a buncha bengali people who are Hijabis and wear saris.. It works.. but eh =/ Not for me. I like to stick to my Afghan clothes. Sha garday Kamees au partoog..
Daa zma lewanay Zrra gorah, daa sta lewanee Mina..
Za ba da Sahra warnakam da Iran pa Golestan,
Dalta za yao & yakta yam, halta zar zma pa Shaan.
It's Pakistani as well. Worn more so by Pakistanis in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, etc. (major cities). You are not likely to see a Pashtun woman wearing one, though... at least not with skin showing in it. (People will point fingers and call her a ****.)
Sarees didn't start off that attractive. Just like dhotis - they were yards of unstitched homespun cotton, wrapped around the body to keep some kind of cover. In recent history tailoring and the variation in styles was the forte of Muslims, shalwars, churidars, sherwanis etc. It should be noted that Shalwars came from invaders and settlers from the Muslim west* and this is telling - when in the Panjab people wear a wrap, the Pashtoons, typically turn up their noses - even in Bangladesh - dhotis/lungees and sarees come before shalwars.

Same! I absolutely LOVE them. I like anything to do with Eastern clothes, be it Arab, Indian, Pakistani or Afghan ... that is not to say I don't like Western clothes ... Now, I only have a few lenghas, lots of shalwaar kameez and believe you me, no Afghan dresses. They're a rare find everywhere. Well, Mum has promised me a lot of pairs when she goes back soon InshaAllah.
And I don't think they're so revealing to be honest, well at least not as revealing as some other types of clothing. I mean, a petti-coat and a half top underneath, with seven metres (minimum) of a wrap around your body ... not quite, no. Depends how you wrap it of course, and it also depends on the top you wear underneath. You can get sleeveless, strapless, half-sleeves, three-quarters and even full. I have a few pics I might upload later. They're absolute stunners.
u know whats funny? a bunch of guys in this thread. CAN WE WOMEN HAVE SOME PRIVACY? U BLOODY ZANCHOOS!
my father is a strict pakhtun but he has not once told me how to dress or what to wear and not wear. i respect him alot for that and i make sure he doesn't have a complaint from me. i think a man's opinion on this matter is unnecessary and unwanted. thank you very much we don't tell you which angle to place you lungi or pakool on.
unless you are very special or something....
I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.
non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.
I wore a Sari once at my Indian friends wedding. It was so pretty. There are many ways you can make it covered. The one i wore, was a turqoise and purple color. My top was purple, long sleeved, and no skin was showing.
