This profession in Swat areas existed for a long time and in the old days there was some class to it. The performers were of a sub-class of society known as damans who were mostly non-Pashtuns. In later years due to urbanization and the increasing demand for fashion and art has blurred the line between classes. This profession is no longer limited to non-Pashtuns or sub-classes, particularly in Swat region. In other areas you will find mostly non-Pashtun involved in the industry but in the region of Swat you'll find both people of Pashtun and non-Pashtun background.

this is the effect of punjabi culture on Pashtuns in KP and FATA.

Pakistani Lollywood culture is just as bad as Bollywood.

These are not Real Swati women. But there is one Mohallah in Mingora called "Banr" only for these daman people. All daman of Pakistan comes there because Swat is a safe place. And after two three years when they are introduced in Cds, Television. They say we are from Swat. The real people of Swat will never allow their women for this dirty work.

These are not the residents of swat.
But those who post such things have no shame.
They should concentrate on their own homes rather than throwing dirt on others.

Most of these damanay are locals of swat. They are not swati pashtun but it is wrong to say they are not from there.
I d,nt think a swatia pashtana will do such things.
                These are kasbagrs,daman and others.
In swat you will find yousufzais, parachas, gujars, kohistanis, damans etc but pashtuns are majority and others such as gujars, parachis etc also speak pashtu.
They should get rid of this damtub culture. It is also wrong to blame every swatai for this mess. These damans are very poor people and they do,nt even own their own homes to live. They do this for money.

I agree. When people say that Pashtun will never do this, never say never. There are worse videos now available made by Pashtuns and shared by Pashtuns than these dancing girls.

Nice...so many women singers from Swat.

Guys, why ridicule these ladies? Who forced it upon these ladies or the families they belong to? It is might is right where some clans or families brutally have taken control of all resources whether land or political and social power and influence forcing others to a life of indignity.

Such thing should be encouraged. At least the exposure through modern media would give these dancing girls more control over their lives without entirely being left at the mercy of lustful Pashtun men to meet both ends meet.

Alas it is this narrow-mindedness that left Pashtun society to be one of the most ugly society in terms of art, culture, aesthetics, or other facets of artistic beauty and sophistication. Neither, this narrow-mindedness has left Pashtun society to be any moral society. Pashtuns are notorious for dealing in drugs (charas, heroine, etc.), for homosexuality, for frequenting bothal houses in cities where they work as taxi drivers and chowkidars e.g. Karachi, Dubai, Lahore (i.e. why they have the highest number or AID patients in Pakistan), and for savagely killing and being killed not to mention being used like toilet papers by others for their agenda.

Alas, a Pashtun ghairat begins and ends with caging women and for holding those i.e., the carpentors, barbers, blacksmiths, etc. that have given to their society some symblom of civility and culture in contempt. What a pathetic community.

If Nazia Iqbal had not taken to siging, her family would still be living on the earning from the small barber shop given to them by the Pashtun landlord in return for servicing the landlord. She and other women of her family would still be working for the landord dishonoured and humuliated. The singing profession and the modern media has given her an opportunity to gain some degree of freedom.

One of the above girls has really a sad story. Her mother as a young girl was sent as a kind of gift alongside the bride from a landlord family when she was married into another landlord family. There she served the family as a kind of domestic servant or may be a bonded slave-girl until she became young whence she escaped God knows in what circumstances and married a man in the neighbourhood.

Then this girl was born probably in early nineties. I have heard the condition of the impoverished family has improved a bit after the singing career of the girl. I heard she recently was also invited to Afghanistan.
