  • going to the movies

What are your family rules? Do you go together, alone or not at all?

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

My dad doesnt like the movies...he says its not Kabul when they would go with their friends once they found money for it, go to the movies, and act like they knew Hindi or act like they knew English for Rambo....with their pants that was worn over the partug kameez :D

But over here, my brother goes out with his friends. I go out with my friends. Once in a while i will just go out with my sister or take some of her friends.

If a really good family movie is being shown, then the whole family will go.

Yeah, we do go to the movies.. I usually go with cousins. Not so much with friends, actually not so much at all.
I don't really have time to go to the movies, we tend to rent movies/buy DVDs more often and watch it at home at a sleep over with a buncha cousins and junk food.

Yeah, going to the movies once was a taboo topic or frowned upon, but now it's just like whatever, sometimes they even suggest "Cinema ta wali nazi?". It's a cousin-thing, really.

When my parents are sitting, fast-forward option is under full control and active. With siblings and cousins, the situation is much relieving. With friends it is a thorough entertainment experience.
hahahah..The first time I went to theater was in Pekhawar. It was a Pashto film starring Badir Munir and Mussarat Shaheen and it was all accidental, nothing something like planned and that was the last time as well. I happened to enjoy it a lot since nothing in the movie made sense to me,lol.A rocket pierced his chest and he was still alive! He took out his heart and started firing bullets!!!hahahaha..no exageration!
The theater in Times square NY is really amazing compared to the Shabistan Cinema of Pekhawar. The 3D-IMAX experience of Avatar was mind-blowing and plenty of others.I hate watching movie alone, I drag my friend to watch with me.She sleeps while I watch and finish her popcorn.

For me, it doesn't come down to being a Pakhtana. Before that, I hold my Islamic values in much higher esteem and won't compromise them for a few hours of enjoyment with friends, who always end up disappointed when I turn down their offers. I am sure most of you will agree that there is no doubt cinemas are houses of sins, which spreads forbidden imagies, pictures of women who are clothed yet naked and promote enticing sexual behaviours. I know we are exposed to this sort of stuff on a daily basis, but there is a difference in choosing to consume it and being surrounded by it. As Allah says in th Quran, 'the enjoyment of such acts is brief, but the punishment grave.'

Either way, I don't watch anything without a remote.

i m not sure what type of family i come from in that sense...my family doesn't go to the movies but i do sometimes. i go during weekdays to watch selective movies when every one is at work or school to avoid the over crowded theater...i often go alone though.. i like sitting in the first or second row and pretending i am the only person there..it's a very interesting experience.
back in jilalabad we watched indian movies almost every night. at home of course....though i have been the center of a joke ever since childhood. i have a very nasty habit of constantly speaking through out the movie. i point at the screen and explain things as if every one else in the room is either blind or can't hear properly.

I don't go often, sometimes it's just something to do with mates or relatives.

But I do love films. =/

Well, me, I think going to the movies is a waste of money. I would much rather either rent a movie or then watch it online if it's available. Since I have no relatives here, I can't brag about having cousins over (), but some close friends I enjoy watching movies at home. However, I've been to the movies twice in my entire lifetime - once with a sister and the other with a couple of friends.

My parents don't like movies. They strongly believe that going to the cinema is forbidden (haraam). So they never go, and we can't even so much as even SUGGEST the idea of the whole family going to the movies to watch a film. Watching it at home is fine, though, as long as it's PG-10 or under.

Speaking of moves ... has anyone watched "August Rush"? OMG!!!!!! That movie is CRAZY GOOD!!! It's beeeeeeeeeeeeautiful! And moving! I'm so gonna watch it again!
