Was he really an Afghan? So many Indian Muslims claim Afghan ancestry. Sharukh Khan claims to be a Pashtun. So does Salman Khan. Aamir Khan claims to be Herati. I wonder to what degree all this claims are true.

He is speaking Pashto in the video so surely he was an Afghan and it has "Muzh" instead of Mung so he indeed must have roots from Kandahar/Pishin. He is struggling with Pashto which indicate that he had not spoken it in a very long time. Khuday de warta maghfirat naseeb ki.

Shahrukh Khan is a Hindki/Pishori, said to be of Kashmiri descent. His relatives live in Peshawar. Dilip Kumar/Yusuf Khan is an Awan Hindki from Peshawar. Salman Khan says his grandfather was from Afghanistan but does not know other details about his roots.

He knows some Pashto and I think he’s too old to have learned it just to larp as an Afghan, so he probably has legit Afghan roots from the Pashtun areas. Whether he was actually Pashtun or not is harder to say. His mother was apparently a maid though so that might suggest she was not Pashtun.

I don’t know much about Bollywood, but I suspect a lot of the people claiming to have Afghan roots are doing so based on family legends. It’s possible that some of them have real roots in Afghanistan, but they’re so disconnected from the country and culture that it barely means anything anymore. Imagine a third generation Afghan in America or Europe that doesn’t speak Pashto or Farsi and has never visited the country. Those people will barely maintain any Afghan identity. Now imagine that they also mix and assimilate into a native Muslim population. One doesn’t exist in the west, but if it did, can you see how much quicker we’d lose our identity living out here? That’s basically what happened to the Afghans/Turks/Persians that moved into India.

I get your point, guys, but imo just because he speaks Pashto doesnt mean he is a Pashtun. Last time I was in India I met plenty of Indian Sikhs in Lajpat Nagar who spoke Kabuli Farsi quite fluently. They were not larping as Afghans. They just learned it by speaking and working with other Afghans (Lajpat Nagar in Delhi is full of Afghans, with plenty of Afghan restaurants, pharmacies, offices, baqalis, and so on) and Indians, despite being a bit creepy, truly love Afghanistan so they learn our languages and culture.

BTW I met plenty of Afghan Sikhs in Delhi as well. I remember this guy in Connaught Place working in a pashmina store. He told me and my dad that he was born in Afghanistan. He spoke Farsi very well. And he was blonde. So I believe he was telling us the truth.

As Samandari asserts, the aforementioned Khans claim Afghan ancestry but are Hindowan from Peshawar or Chach region. They have made the laqab Khan into a qom! Lol. Not one has identified their ancestral hadeera or Nahya.
But Kader Khan supports his claim with not only sheen Pashto but with Mujh instead of Mong/a.
Furthermore he says kakrano in correct plural and context (instead of saying Kakar which a larper may use). This makes his case most credible of all old Bollywood Khans.
I do question the fact he lapses into Hindi - a mother tongue doesn’t lapse so easily even at 70 plus. I speculate.

Had similar experience. Met a Farsi speaking karakuli wearing Hindu at a bus stop in Othmarchen HH near the HKK building. Fluent Kabuli but Hindu. My friend who just returned from UK said that Southall is “full” of Jalalabad Sikhs. Based on that you are right that Pashto doesn’t mean he is Pashtun, but he defo not Sikh, never heard him use Punjabi. Could he be descended from Kabuli Hindu? Dunno. He never lived enough to speak Farsi. So, Kandahar/Pishin/Sheen/munjh and Kakrano is his best authentication.

And his pronunciation of Pishin and Quetta is spot on. Its written as Pishin and Quetta, but correct and local pronunciation is pshin and kwata'h as he says it. The lapses into Hindi might make sense if he has moved to India in childhood.

I figured out the meaning of the verb ‘larp’ from the context, however had to look it up to be sure lol.

TBH I learned its meaning like three weeks ago on Twitter. I am not a native Englishspeaker nor I live in an Anglo country brother so when Anglos use labels such as "larper", "based" or "woke" it can get very confusing for a non native speaker

Black Pakistani took afghan larp-ing to the next level, in the past it was easy to call out Afghan LARPers

Sometimes I think these LARPers are doing character research for a Hollywood role.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

He was born in Kabul but his parents were from Qandahar. He was one year old when he moved to Mumbai, India. Asides from being an actor, he was also a civil engineering professor at one point in life, teaching somewhere in Canada. He was fluent in Pashto even in his recent years.
I really dislike it when I come across people who have alot of negative things to say about people they claim they know nothing about and not a single positive thing along with it. If being bombed for the next 5 decades does not put an end to your race, that sort of ****ty mentality surely will.
