and the fact that like next to no pashtuns celebrate nowruz in the pakistani side of the durrand line.
this excludes pashtuns from being iranian but iranians should celebrate nowruz?
maybe Norwuz is only for west iranic peoples.
i suppose ossetians don't do it either, and pamiris only did it cause tajiks got persianized. right ??
like, come on.
balochis in pakistan do it !

Shapur , how widespread is Nawroz celebrated amongst Afghan Pashtuns?I know its very common among Tajiks ,Farsiwan.Last edited by toughpashtun; 03-23-2017, 01:45 AM.

Pashtuns don't really celebrate Nawroz but people do celebrate Naway Kal because New year starts on 20th March in Afghanistan. Afghanistan follows the Hijri Shamsi (Solar) calendar starting with the hijra of the prophet (PBUH). Most Pashtuns in non Pashtun areas just go with the flow and have a good time.Originally posted by toughpashtun View PostShapur , how widespread is Nawroz celebrated amongst Afghan Pashtuns?I know its very common among Tajiks ,Farsiwan.
Pashtuns don't cook "Samanak" a Nawroz dish Tajiks make or do anything special. Most Pashtuns just go out and have fun because it is a national holiday.
There are poetry sessions held, people go to Melas like "da naranj gul" held in Jalalabad etc.
There are differences even among Tajiks and Iranians in the way Nawroz is celebrated. The Afghan national symbols are taken from all nations, not just pashtuns. The national sport of Buzkashi is from Uzbeks. Turmens, National dance Attan from Pashtuns etc.

Like Shapur pointed out nawroz is a nawa kal; it is the start of new year because our calendar starts 20/21 March. Naturally ideas get mulled over what happened last year and what to anticipate for the next, but the date is 20/21 March instead of 1st of Jan. Cultural references to new year pivot on nawroz.
In my area I do not know anyone doing what Iranians do; the haft seen, the wet nuts smanak however many people I know in Kabul do that. I have noticed that Kabul based tv stations are sticking tuft of grass on their studio tables.
Mazarisharif really gets into nawroz mode. Big events at the Roza.Last edited by torkham; 03-25-2017, 05:28 PM.
