Sir, I'm not sure If you have traveled rural Punjab, but you can most definitely tell apart a Jat from a Gujjar.

Also my people, Arain. We only marry within our people.

the only group you can tell apart are usually the dalits, but other then that I have met quiet a few gujjars, jats, arians, and most of them typically looked punjabi.

One thing I really dont get is why punjabi muslims still have a caste system, the other indic muslim groups do not follow caste system. The amount of punjabi families I have met for marriage purposes, all of them always asked my cast, even the ones living here in Canada. The hindko/pashtun family that I am getting married in to soon Inshallah had no such demands at all, they were just looking for a nice respectable guy. Me being orginally from (Karachi) didn't matter to them

Agreed with karachi, was just about to say that. Panjabis have become a race.

Well, I am Arain, and usually about looks factor, I get Pashtun usually speaking to me in pashtu. Since I am a little fair skinned, I get accused of being pathan or whatever.

My people Arain are typically more religious than other Punjabi peoples. That is one major difference.

Social class is important in Punjab as a father would not want to wed his daughter to a poorer man, unless he is religious.

Certain ethnicities have certain roles in different areas.

Like in my own village, we have a lot of land. We have workers that are Jat that mind our livestock, while we have Gujjars that milk our cows. That is their role.

It is very difficult to explain, unless you actually visited or lived there.

^ arian caste comes from India: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arain

most of them migrated in 47

They are probably hindu converts who changed their caste name, I have seen few arians and they did not look pashtun

also whats the point of all these divisions among punjabis? you follow the same culture, speak the same language, eat the same food, mostly look the same, why divide yourself so much? it's a shame that people from different groups can't even marry each other

caste/zaat system needs to be completly demolished, until that day you can't really call yourself muslim. SK is right that pakistanis are not really muslims, just by name only
