i have been hesitant to watch this film because it was funded by gaddafi, even though i have all the respect in the world for mukhtar. barakzai, what is your review of the film?

i have been hesitant to watch this film because it was funded by gaddafi, even though i have all the respect in the world for mukhtar. barakzai, what is your review of the film?

I think Gaddafi's main contentions were with

1) Mitigating some of Mokhtar's religious zeal, which Akkad, the producer/director still makes sure to get through. You have to recall that Gaddafi was a vicious survivalist, but not elegent and probably did not have the attention span to truly edit the movie personally. In this time period it was probably a the last thing on his mind when he had to deal with successive issues going on.

2) Eliminating any reference to Mokhtar's prior affiliations with the Senussi royals.

Otherwise, its not horrible. It certainly portrays Graziani and the Italian imperialists and colonizers in a negative light (though accurate as Graziani was the one to sanction the mass murder of many Africans).

In general Randolph, its a reasonable movie.

I think it was done in case they get cold feet so they couldn't run away. It's one of the most memorable parts from this film.
