  • New Play about Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

as some of you may know I am an actor and I am in new york doing this play called BLOOD AND GIFTS by JT Rogers.

it is all about the soviet invasion of Afghanistan. the play spans from 1981 to 1991.

the play is by a non Pashtun but it still sheds some light on the horrors and tragedies of all the military involvement in Afghanistan.

I play the character of Abdullah Khan. a man in love with his home land who will never give up fighting for his family and his father's fathers.

this community has been such a great help as I have learned about this amazing, beautiful and complex culture.

here is a thank you not I posted on another thread.

    ***

good morning friends on Pashtun Forums,

I am now in new york in rehearsal for this play BLOOD AND GIFTS at the Lincoln Center. as I am working on the play, I cannot begin to tell you all what a help this forum has been to me.

I pray I do the Pashtun community justice.

    I am keeping a video blog of my time here;

2 - between two lincolns live with Bernard White - YouTube

if you are in or near new york, please come see the play. we begin previews on october 27 and open on november 21 and run until the first of the new year 2012.

    tasha kor and dera manana.

    Asalaam Alaikum.

I am so grateful for this sight. I thank Admin Khan for his hard work in keeping this beautiful and so important community alive on these forums.

yeah it is forbidden to record. union rules.

the lincoln center keeps archives of plays though. only you have to come to new york and sit in their library to watch them.

again thank you for the shout out to the wruna in new york.

Haris, a version of this play actually originated in london a couple of years ago.

I wish you the best, however my humble opinion is....

No offence bernard white can you also highlight the miseries, the hardships of the Afghan people who were in favor of Soviet assistance, you know, the educated classes, the progressives and the intellectuals, who were hanged, paraded all over Afghanistan especially in Herat, just because they opposed backwardness and equality for all with a classless system and a collective economy.

The West, especially its media, tends to only highlight one side of that conflict, and ignores the other side. My I recommend you read the book titled "Afgantsy" by a man called Rodric for a better insight to the opinion of the other side of the conflict.

Bernard, I am a pretty handsome fella, tall, long hair and quite stocky, could I play the evil Afghan General who orders the attacks on the Mujahideen. Ill do it for free, oh the humor!

                thank you Soldat.

I so appreciate hearing all sides of that tragic war.

man's hatred to man seems to know no bounds.

but I am hopeful that man's capacity to love his fellow man knows no bounds.

I know the story of Afghanistan is deeply complex and has many sides.

the fog of war is thick and it smells of the rotting corpses from both sides.

Inshallah, we will move toward peace.

                I so appreciate your observations.

If you need any questions asked, then feel free to ask me through PM. I got a good insight towards the other side thats never spoken of, but please do read the book I mentioned, it highlights most of what happened during that time.

and I welcome your contribution and love for the Pashtun people!

We are a isolated mountain people who have been treated badly by history since the dawn of mankind, its good to see there are people out there who actually care for us.

                  Wear that Pakol with pride!
