Isn't there a thin line between some artistic forms of "expression" and occultism?

One could say that about something seemingly harmless like AOR or Buddhist chanting perhaps, but Metal draws in their fair share of Anarchists/Satanists as well as well meaning accountant types.

I don't listen to metal regularly so I wouldn't consider myself a metal head, but I certainly can appreciate some of the great metal songs and bands.

@Jamaludeen, this is a "Metal" thread. Why did you post Slipknot here?

I've been a Metalhead since the days of darkness, when man feared not the sword or the lance, nor did he fear the beast of fire - he feared.. the Axeman!

Anyway, it's impossible to pick just one favorite track. Here's a good one though:

Heroic Deathe - StormWarrior - YouTube

Some Heavy/Doom: While Heaven Wept - The Drowning Years - YouTube

                          Folk/Pagan: Forefather - Brunanburh - YouTube

Primordial!: Primordial - The Coffin Ships - YouTube

And you can't have a Metal thread without stuff that's tr00, kvlt and krvshing:

IMMORTAL - Mountains Of Might - YouTube

                          Darkthrone-Transilvanian Hunger - YouTube

This is one of my all-time favorite Black Metal tracks:

Bilskirnir - As snow covered the hyperborean soil - YouTube

                          The intro ends at 1:33:

                          Taunusheim Nebelkämpfe - YouTube
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

lol no way.. Black Metal is vastly different from Doom and every single Doom Metal riff can be recognized by its heavy bass and its constant "crushing" nature. You can never mistake the two. They're distinguishable even to someone who isn't a Metalhead.

Heavy and Power Metal are one and the same thing (the former is mostly used for American and British traditional bands whereas the latter is used for European and Brazilian traditional metal bands, who play at the speed of sound with some 80s influence, too).

Slipknot and some other modern rock/pop bands portray themselves as Metal bands but they don't play riffs at all. Metal is all about riffs, rhythms, musicianship...
