I wonder if the issue is residual anti-India paranoia that verges on the irrationality. Consider what we are saying here.

Take Ustad Awal Mir's music - if he wasn't singing in Pashto, his scores could have been lifted out of India, and yet Ustad Awal Mir is a national hero in Afghanistan, (and sadly not mentioned much in Pakistan where he was born).

Bacha Khan was considered by the Pakistan authorities to be soft on India. So as well as being pro-Afghan, he was pro-India. What was worse for him? Perhaps being pro-India, travelling there and accepting Indian support. This made him, a self respecting Pashtoon, a traitor in Pakistan.

Most the Khans in Bollywood claim Pashtoon backgrounds, not Tajik or Panjabee, but Pashtoon.

One of Pakistan's current problems with India is that India is heavily involved with Afghanistan and this of course fuels more anti-India hysteria. It has nothing to do with Bollywood dances.

India culture is influencing Pashtoon culture? Right. Hasn't it always? What is especially the case now?

If what we are saying is that when you search Youtube for Pashto music, you have Peshawari girls doing cheap dances and that is as a result of Indian influence, then consider the entertainment industry generally.

For many Pashtoons, music/actings is considered damtob. Many Pashtoons don't like it because khanawada khalq keep away from it. Perhaps these people even approve of the Taliban's attempts to clean up.

But let's focus closely on the entertainment industry. In India, there aren't many Muslim girls left in the movie industry. Gone are the days of Madhubala (a Pukhtana), Waheeda Rahman and others. Today its Priety this, Karina that - Hindu girls who have no issue with short/tight dresses and bikini dances.

The Muslim girls in the entertainment industry are in Pakistan, so when you flick on Pakistani TV and you see women in backless dresses, noodle strap tops and crop pants, chances are they are Muslims. Add to this to their new batch of music videos, and then you get the picture.

Is India to blame now? Are they instructing Pakistani women to drop their self respect in order to make money? No. These women are doing what they do because, poor or educated, they are in an industry, that many of us consider damtob. We cannot blame India, because today they wear jeans and tank tops.

When it comes to Indian entertainment, the biggest market outside the home patch, is Pakistan. Pakistani are hungry consumers of Indian entertainment. But the issues raised in this thread are not about entertainment or whatever Indian culture is supposed to be - it's also about Indian politics.

Isn't it the same thing? What's the difference between Pakistani fat sweaty women jumping and hopping in gardens on Pashto tunes with half naked vegetarian bleached Indians dancing in plaza's on Indian tunes?

Whether it's Indian or Pakistani or afghani, it's all the same thing.

And as Tor Khan says, it's all damtoob and we should ban this all together.

          Dear Tor Khan

As I said many times, Both India and Pakistan are a threat to Pashtuns.

Firstly If Pakistan is gone, India will try to work its domination there.

We as a Pashtun Nation can not trust neither of them.

India in Afghanistan is clearly there to replace Pakistans depth, or can i say to Piss Pakistani off.

This is not what we call a Sincere friend at all.

Also, as i said, isolation from alien cultures will benefit Pashtuns, and in the long run, it will help our culture, reputation and values to be well established in the international community, and our dependance on others will be reduced and limited.

India and Pakistan are both what you can call stake holders on our misery, both have interests, and I stand very firmly that Afghanistan or any Pashtun region should not be used as a football between two sides competeing for regional power.

I find these Mujra Indian *****s a big threat to our peghlay and women likewise, Also i find this indic culture of the south east asian very UnPashtun and demonic.

Why should i kiss the bata chapal of a Indian or Pakistani to make myself have a good future and life.

Hahahaha you actually made me laugh roara jan, that was very entertaining, fat sweaty women jumping and vegetarian indians hahahahahahahha khudaiya paka, mara damra zoyut Khandalai na yam pa mu zwand shay.

As I said, I prefer our women to be expressed through folk music or anything that is to do with our culture and values, I find our women dressed in traditional clothes, doing attan as respectable, better than those horrid women dancing on nazia iqbal videos with rings in their noses etc.

Lemme get this straight. We hate Indian culture because it has negatively influenced our people?

I think the Indian culture itself is quite fascinating and rich. Some of us seem to TRY imitating it, and the best we wanna go for is ... oh wait, nothing! The girls we see dancing to Nazia Iqbal's songs don't at all dance like Indian dance. I mean, Indian dance is freaking beautiful, and Nazia's "ladies" not only don't know how to dress and but can't dance either. They're never in tune with the music, never dance in harmony with each other, and are convinced that purposely pushing yourself into the camera's direction is appealing. Well, it's not.

So, yeah, I don't think it's the Indian culture's fault; it's our own fault for not having a good dance academy--or any at all, for that matter--and for championing singers like Nazia Iqbal. I have nothing against her voice; I think she can sing at times, but it's just ... is there NOTHING she can do about these "dancers" in her music videos?

It's not just her, though. That song "Sha Laila Zar ka Raozi" is the same way. The guy in there can dance better than the girl. I LOVE the song but hate the video; it's just pitiful.

Stop blaiming Pashtuns, it was never in our culture to allow our peghlay to dance like Indian Mujras.

Of course she can do something against those dancers.

Don't mince your words, but yeah, perhaps that's one of India's objectives. That said, Pashtoon nationalists, e.g. President Daud, Dr Najib etc., Bacha Khan etc. have kept cordial relations with India. You simply cannot ignore the giant next door.

I have a different take on this. I think isolation will prevent us from making the progession that we need to take forward our language and culture.

Put it this way, how many times have you heard people say "My Grandmother was Pathan", "My grandfather's uncle's, pet cat's first owner was a Pathan". Many claim Pashtoon heritage or a connection, but when you ask them, they do nothing for Pashtoons either in terms of representing us or taking our language or culture forward, but still they claim to be "Pathan" or Afghan etc. The problem, in my view, is that it's still trendy to claim Pashtoon blood, but to not be culturally Pashtoon. And we have many like that e.g. Imran Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and any number of Khans here, there and everywhere. What is wrong with being culturally, linguistically and ethnically Pashtoon? And why do people leave it all behind (except the ethnicity)?

Farsi/Parsi/Dari doesn't have that problem. There are still people who look towards Farsi as an aspirational language. There are people who see Urdu in the same light. Why these languages and not Pashto? In my view its because these languages were taken outside their "ethnic" patch and made the obvious languages of trade and learning, and this has helped strengthen them. Farsi dominated Persia and stretched into central Asia, India etc. Urdu has had a real strong foothold amongs the India Muslims and later Pakistan. Pashto, just was never able to compete the same way, and as a result our people stayed behind, uneducated and later laughed at. Imagine if Pashto was the aspirational language. Perhaps our homeland would not be suffering now. I believe that we would have less to lose, but more to gain. Think for example, how the English managed to export their language around the world - you and I are using it right now - and yet the English are no less English and managed to keep their culture. Others are forced to conform.

When you say Indian mujra - are you talking about the Muslim (Mughal) tradition of entertainment girls?

Why is it a threat, wror jana? It's unPashtoon, right, but it doesn't affect anyone who doesn't go near it. Are Pashtoon women so fickle that they are ready and waiting to take up mujra because of others?

No-one here should kiss anyone's chapal. But, AlHamdulilah, wrora, you are living in a nice place, in a free country, in a system that protects your basic rights. Would you not wish this for your brothers and sisters in the homeland? Personally, I would like to think, that you would.

Perhaps it's blaming Pashtuns, but I think there's something WE need to do about this instead of blaming Indians for it. Besides, like I said, you can't really compare Indian dance to the one we see on Nazia Iqbal's videos, can you? What is the similarity?

So you accept Indian culture to be influenced and encouraged upon the Pashtun region? So you agree that pashtun women should dance semi naked to earn a living, or maybe you support the view that Indians should be friends of Pashtuns, the Same Hindus whom we fought for hundreds of years to prevent entering our regions, so you accept we should also place a kast system just like in Indian culture in the pashtun region?

What is your take on mix marriages, do you support it? would you allow your sister or brother to marry an Indian?

Well, she is hated by majority of the tribals and alot of people know how she got so famous, selling her body is very common in those professions. Secondly, she can never be compared to great female artists such as naghma, How can she not say No to those Bigharata Kanjaray dancing on those videos???

Never in Pashtun History did we see those *****s dance like a Punjabi Indian Mujra, not even in Socialist time in Afghanistan did we see such videos, those videos do not dance like Pashtuns, but more orinated towards Punjabis and Indians.

Mujra and whoring has never been a part of Pashtun culture.

Those pashtuns who did consume prostitution, did so in the filthy cities like Kabul, Herat, Peshawar, Dehli etc.

Today, you won't find a single ***** in any village in Paktia. yet, Kabul and Peshawar are infested with brothels and bars.

Immorality is not part of our culture. ANd has never been. Immorality is a disease of the cities. And since Pashtuns are nomads and mountain people, we are pure by nature.
