Pashtuns have proven themselves in flat terrains and arranged wars on plenty of occasions, mountinous terrain is an advantage when your on the defensive, however if your on the offensive as The Battle of Gulnabad (50,000 Persians Vs 20,000 Pashtuns) or the third battle of Panipat which was fought on a 12 kilometre long battle field etc then you cant really say it was the terrain. remember in those days it was face to face combat and hardly any guerrilla warfare which uses the terrain to an advantage, even when the Mughal king in 1672 sent 30,000 to attack the Safi tribe they could have easily been beaten using pockets, traps and waves but instead were confronted face to face on flat land and destroyed with only 4 people surviving.
