  • THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING PICTURE I HAVE SEEN of
any Pashtun derivation on this site,
the one of the girl staring disapprovingly
    at the US Marine.
I wonder WHO took the photo?
[A fellow Marine or the Marine himself? Seems unlikely they would
catch such authentic reaction to them
or be that quick on the camera to capture this
unbelievably evocative expression on her face.

Usually those are gone before one can even grab their camera.]

Where did you find it, Manzareh, if you feel like divulging?
    If not that's OK.

This is TRULY TRULY TRULY a classic !

AHA, so now why isn't THIS lovely and sincere child
the cover girl for National Geographic
and marketed everywhere around the world -??!!!

First, they have lousy taste in women's beauty
[probably conditioned by all the UGLIER than Sin
"models" and "actresses" in America -

Two, the picture implies anger even among
the most innocent and pure of Afghans against American atrocities
all of which are scooped under that Bokhara carpet
so the reading public will never guess
that -- just like the Soviets performing
    their "brotherly internationalist mission"
    terrorizing the country --
the US differed little in its nightmarishly cruel effort
to subdue Afghanistan over its own decade tromping
    all over this long-suffering land.

        • What is that picture of - looks so neat! -
          post 1168, the second one.
I like that, plus the one of them praying with the rifles -

that certainly looks familiar from old mujahideen days.

I like the one of the spirited women dancing with energy in
          their national dress, too. Nice.

A very extraordinary shot taken, her feelings are written all over her face, even children realize a threat..

turns out it in Kunar province, this is the full caption and website:

"An Afghan girl is seen in Ghalbalay, a village in the Pech Valley, Kunar province, northeastern Afghanistan, Saturday, Jan. 23. The girl was watching as U.S. Army officers from the 2-12 Infantry discussed local development projects with her father, a local elder, during a pause in a patrol. AP / Brennan Linsley"

                • Thanks, Manzareh !
It was an AP photographer, that explains it. I can't imagine a US military person being interested enough to try to get such a nice picture.

What pathos in that picture !
The second girl is also REMARKABLE.

Afghans must be so proud to have such pure souls among them.
One could search all over the world for a child with these eyes and features [both the Pashtun girls ]
                  Impossible to find.

It's the extraordinary blessing from Allah [swt] !

You always find such evocative material.
Like this picture above, which says volumes about
a fierce independent spirit in the face of heavy intimidation.
[That's how I see it, anyway. What about you?]

Iv always been amazed by photos, specially of my own people, i suppose it fills the void or distance i have between the homeland an myself. I also see a deeper story in good pictures. like the one below:

To me it demonstrates the innocence of our people. It also gives the feeling of anger how helpless we are.
