in afghanistan, pashtuns are geographically very thinly spread. This is not a lie. its a fact. And most pashtuns live outside Afghanistan. Because of the war.[SIZE="4"][B][CENTER][URL="www.quranawsunnat.com"]www.quranawsunnat.com

following with what shinkay said. I think that they randomly estimate the number of people that speaks the language because afghanistan has not had a census in ages, thus the linguistic maps arent accurate. Also in terms of the linguistic maps are the languages recorded in terms of them being spoken as a first language or the mother tongue?

A) Afghanistan has never ever had its own "Full" accurate Census, only one in 1930s/1950s (Afg gov) in which only population was counted, and another in 1960s (Russia Gov) but not as detailed as the first one.
b) The maps which are represented in Wikipedia, and other western sources as well as Books and encyclopedias always differ and almost 90% wrong.
c) Afghanistan had no truth population count meaning "head count" since 1960 (Russian Gov).
Therefore there is no point of believing in of these maps. However the one map in Wikipedia was created by few Ismailis in 2004 which I witnessed the first time it was created. Those who were in forums 4 year ago know what I am talking about. These maps in Wikipedia continuously presented in forums and Wikipedia, supported by Iranis/Pakis and shias and other anti-Afghans, now has been accepted even by embassy of Slovenia. Yes I was shocked cause when I went into their office was mainly decorated for the Afghan-Slovenia Business opportunists. For god's sake at least more colors would help. But anyways low quality nor not if related to Afghanistan as long as anti-Afghan sentiment is there it will be published.Happy Ramadan everyone. Thanks for inviting to this discussion, Afghanlady.
I agree that it is one of the issues that needs urgent attention. However, an ethnic map would be authentic only if it is sketched by the responsible governmental authority. Drawing an ethnic map seems an impossible task for an individual or a few; however, we can somehow draw attention of the government to this issue. It is also evident that such an effort, even on the part of the government, would be futile unless a census is carried out first. Carrying out a census, again, wouldn't be possible without full-fledged peace.Last edited by Guest; 07-24-2010, 12:30 PM.

It would be helpful if someone can produce that map here so that we can have a look at it.Originally posted by heratigirlDawezai but the Tajiks created one by just sitting home and according to Nick even embassys use their version og the self reated map. Can't we create our own with our knowledge?

First, we need to see this particular map that has supposedly been drawn by one particular ethnic community. If this is true and the map is not genuine then we can work on drawing a genuine one (which seems hard though). But at least such a map would initiate political discussions which may draw attention of the government and the people to the issue.Originally posted by JasmineEyeliner and Dawezai,
We can use the knowledge we have with a few assumptions to draw a map just like how they did.
For practical reasons, let us find out this map and, if it really exists, bring it to the attention of the people and the government.Last edited by Guest; 07-24-2010, 01:33 PM.

Dawezai, I was spectating and I decided to do some quick research on this matter:
I went to Google.com and all I typed was Pashto linguistic map. That would be a normal search-query for someone who wants to learn about the status of Pashto in Afghanistan right? Guess what I stumbled upon.

That map is unacceptable.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Admin Khan, that map is absolutely unacceptable. I was looking for the ethnic maps of Afghanistan and came across this interesting post at a blog.
Fun With Ethnic Maps
The post is interesting as it has given all the ethnic maps of Afghanistan.
It starts with, "…all the ethnic maps of Afghanistan are inaccurate".
[Roy, Olivier. 1992. ‘Identity and expression in Northern Afghanistan’, in Jo-AnnGross (ed) Muslims in central Asia: Expressions of Identity and Change. Duke University Press.]
I also found that they were planning a census in 2008 which was postponed for two years.
It is shocking to see that even the ethnic maps drawn by CNN and National Geographic are wrong.

Dawezai, I am starting to think many of those maps were created by ordinary Forum members of various communities. I don't think it would hurt if we create our own version of the map. It could sort of serve as an unofficial linguistic map.Originally posted by Dawezai View PostAdmin Khan, that map is absolutely unacceptable. Now Dawezai, I am against the planning of a census right now in Afghanistan. It will hurt us.Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
