  • Old pictures of Kandahar

These are some historical pictures that a relative of mine took back in Kandahar

(in the 3rd pic, that is Hamid Karzai)

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Now compare these pictures with the women of today in Kandahar and find the difference for yourself.

The burkas clad corpses and these elegant, respectable , educated , impressive and self confident women are poles apart. I wish Kandahar see once again its past and the women live like normal human beings not like the moving bags and sacks in the streets.

Extreme religion has done havoc to the Afghan/Pashtun society. We were far better before 1979, a progressive, educated and modern nation. Now in shambles and downtrodden owing to Taliban and Mujahideen.

It is unfortunate, to know that women of Afghanistan don't have the free will to make their own decisions.

i was visiting an iranian website the other day and hey had the picture of an afghan lady going through mri with a burqa on. it was their joke of the week. maybe it wouldn't have hurt as much if it wasn't the truth.
these are the people who are going to raise our future generation. God help us then.

Should we feel proud seeing the legs of women of Kandahar?

Now it all makes sense, the relatives of Pashtuns here used to walk around surr-tor and wear skirts in public, this explains their attitude on PF.

Are you sure it's owing to Taliban? Who made the Taliban? Do you have tunnel vision or just a bleak sense of history. As for Mujahideen, if it wasn't for them afghans would be speaking Russian.

go listen to khudkusha dhamaka on youtube a few times and then come back to mock us. heck, even the lyrics have been formed to please your type.
as for these women, it's pretty obvious but since one of you in pretending to be a dumbass and the other of you is one, i would clarify it. it is the fact that they had a choice to choose what they want to wear and not be harassed in public which is commendable. 35 years later, a woman can be covered from head to toe and still be sexually and verbally harassed for crossing the street.

Whether it was a choice or not has nothing to do with the point I made.

you wouldn't know what a point was if it came down, aiming at your head like a meteorite, let alone make one. just shoo.
