    Dear Friends,

With the arrival of spring, a new year begins, full of renewed hopes and wishes. We would like to take advantage of this opportunity and offer our best wishes to all who celebrate Nowroz worldwide, especially the people of Afghanistan. With God’s blessings we hope that this year, 1392, will be a year full of happiness, peace, progress, and a year void of violence and insecurities for all citizens of the world. Let us celebrate this year with new beginnings, new hopes and wishes and pray for durable peace, security, and much success in all aspects of our lives.

I said my family celebrates but I don't because it is a Persian holiday. We have naway kal not nowruz.

Naway kal just means happy new year which is celebrated according to the islamic new year in it's calendar change. All we do is greet family members and friends and have a nice dinner feast, that's all. Unlike nowruz where they jump over the fire and other haram stuff god knows what.

Islamic year starts on 1 Muharram which is the assasination day of hazrat Umar and then you have the Karbala event and 10th of Muharram as Ashora so no way one can celebrate. Its all mourning not jubilation.

Crossing over fire, fire plays and celebrations with lights is some thing which gives you joy and some thing which has nothing to do with Islam or Non Islam. Otherwise playing football , cricket , buzkashi should also be declared haram.

In Afghanistan we only have the nawa kol and Nowruz on the same day, becuase we don't use the Lunar calender, we have the Solar Hijri calendar, thats the official calendar that Afghanistan uses, nobody celebrates the Islamic new year, its just a normal day, this is the first time I hear that an Afghan celebrates the Islamic new year :S, even Arabs don't do that, and by the way no Pashtun jumps over the fire, mostly Farsiban to that stuff, even they are not doing that so often nowdays.....And even if they did what is so Haram about it?
