there is a hadith, I dont know if it is sahih or fabricated. But it describes the end of days, and it is said that when the end of days is near, the Bedouin Arabs will build tall buildings in Arab Peninsula.

i don't know how people manage to live in dubai. the place creeps me out for some odd reason.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Hey, I live here. I'm not a creep or a perv. Sure, there's a lot not right with the place, and the Burj is really a statement of vanity.

BTW, I was at the official opening and I made my own slideshow of the building.

The first video is dubbed with an electronic version of Con Te Partirò (that plays everynight at the Dubai Fountain show, which is one of the most spectacular water shows anywhere) and the second is of the opening ceremony, which at the time was in the top 10 largest firework displays of all time. Another showcase of vanity perhaps, so the Hadith about tall buildings is one to think about.

... musings from a distance ...: Burj Khalifa

                *Disappointed*
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".
