Strange how mantras are modal. "carbon footprint" was all in mode last year.
Alas scientific revolution is man's fingerprint on earth. Either we live a subconscious (animalistc) life, in caves, live and die by natures laws etc or we fight nature and try to submit it, weave fabrics and structures and move forward.
I was in palestine in 2000, and remember that despite the landscape was similar to neighbouring jordan, the amount of trees planted in this arid region was a contrast to the desert acoss the border. haifa, yaffa, al quds, Especially tel habib, the streets were lined with trees both side. They had a mantra, "atleast one tree for every israeli".
We need trees tOo, not the rampant logging fom paktia to swat.
there is nothing wrong with inventing things. they just have to do a proper job and assure that there are not the damaging side effects.
what makes you think that a more primitive person has a lesser consciuosness than what most people have today, torkham? i don't think covering the planet in toxic crap and making wars all over the world, shows a higher consciousness.

Faye, i dont think primitive concept of earth is lesser, i actually believe the earth and the whole cosmos so sacred, that destroying or polluting it in anypart is a sacrilege. Please note i began my sentence with 'alas', and proceeded with the irreveresibility of scientific progress and its fingerprint on the earth. All we can do now is to slow the damage that has been done and prevent any further such action.
I mentioned the over used example of need of planting more trees and stopping of logging, i would go further as raising awareness of simpler actions such as stop use of plastic bags, heavy metals, aluminium, extensive use of biodegradeable materials, the sort of things that are accessible to oridinary people, let alone the need of monitoring and sanctioning industrial waste that ends up in rivers, and not forgeting the untold disasters that lays ahead with nuclear waste products, burried away in a shortsighted way, these products (ie uranium) have half-lives of 10 thousand years. Thats half life, it doesnt mean it reduces to insignificance, it means it reduces to half of the original holy crap!!!
when you said live subconscious, animalistic in caves i took that to be referring to people who lived a socalled primitive lifestyle'
we are on the same page then, torkham, although trying to work with nature rather than fight with it and submit it. those are the 2 things we have been doing without respect.
uranium 234 is said to have a half life of 704 million years and uranium 238-4.47 billion years. from what i gather depleted uranium, about the same.
these are being used in bombs and the making of military machinery, such as tanks, and helicopter blades, for strenghtening, apparently.
that is what i have read. this is why i am not impressed with sidetrips to other planets as there is so much to be mended and put a stop to, here on the earth.
