I found it got too repetivie after a while. Even on VH/VH, it's just too easy.
That's why I tried the RTR (Rome Total Realism) mod which not only had a better AI that was actually challenging but it had so much historical detail (from unit designs to micro management of settlements). Very fun stuff.
I'd also played EB a while back and agree that it's a great mod.
I own both Medieval 2 & Empire as well (though my computer couldn't even handle Empire so I never got to play it). Try the Broken Crescent mod if you haven't already. It was great fun playing as the Ghaznavids invading Sindh only to have my advance halted by their elephants and then being forced to reorganise my army so that it had more skirmishers/javelin-throwing guys which proved to be very useful. Ah, fun times.
