Assyrians have lived in Iran even before the Iranic tribes arrived. Modern Assyrians are now concentrated around Lake Urmia. My dear friend Humanist from ABF is originally from below Lake Urmia, whilst my paternal side is from the north.

You may want to check my blog following the publication of a fantastic paper from Molodin et al.; my mtDNA analyses will follow shortly. We should soon have a specific idea of what lineages were carried by proto-Tocharians, proto-Indo-Iranians and steppe aboriginals. Stay tuned!
