Comrade Jan,
I was last in Toronto during the summer of last year, which was nice. I'm a Canadian resident (also lived in the US). I love both places, but my family is now mostly in the UK with parents-in-law in Karachi and extended family pretty much scattered. I've spent several years trying to find that little patch somewhere to call a home and the turbulence in the Pashtoon belt whilst it bothers me, doesn't completely put me off the possibility of being on the ground where it all matters. There is this growing possibility of a job in Kabul working in an ministry directed education project.
I'm just an international gypsy, I guess.
