It's a reasonably just law, gulalai! No marks = soft beating. And sometimes, soft beating is needed. However, the best husband would follow the example of the Prophet and never hit his wife. Which makes you wonder why it's allowed in the first place... but yeah.... Did you know that in the West, husbands beat their wives, too? So everyone's just as bad as us, okayyy?
