  • Hi there! I've 2 questions about Dari and Pashto dictionaries.

    Evening mates,

I've 2 questions I would really like to ask.

The first one is do Pashtuns also speak Dari to some extent? I saw 2 different statements. One claims that 40% of Afghanistan speak Dari and another says 90%.

What is true? Maybe both are true, 40% speak it as a mother tongue, and the rest 50% speak it from the school/learned by TV (maybe?).

    Thanks!

The next question is about dictionaries. I am searching 2 kinds of dictionaries to help me study the Pashto language. One is a normal one but without so many entries, I saw here a 50,000 entries one, I think it's overhelming and too much, I am looking for a dictionary with 10,000-15/20,000 entries, not too much BUT concise. I don't really mind if it's free pdf. version or a hard-paper version that I need to purchase online and get it shipped to my threshold.
The next one is more like a glossary/category one. I'm also planning to learn Thai, so I have a great concise dictionary and also a glossary/subject/category dictionary, like here http://www.thai-language.com/category
I like that because it contains words that perhaps are not widely used daily, but they are essential, like how to say different name of games or trees or animals, that you might encounter and would like to mention it or a speaker would like to mention. Got it?

    Thanks in advance!
