A former American intelligence linguist says the United States attacks other countries with impunity and those responsible for US drone strikes should be “hunted down and actually be taken to trial.”
Two members of the US House of Representatives, Walter Jones (R-North Carolina) and Adam Schiff (D-California), have introduced a bill, the Targeted Lethal Force Transparency Act, that would require the administration of US President Barack Obama to issue annual reports on the use of drone strikes.
The measure asks for the number of civilians killed or injured in US drone strikes to be included in the annual report.
However, Scott Rickard says the bill is unlikely to pass US Congress due to the influence that military industry corporations have on US politics.
“The drone program is kind of two-fold. It has a military side which is run by the Air Force and then the intelligence side which is run by the CIA. And, you really have no oversight at all on the CIA side,” said Rickard in a phone interview with Press TV on Thursday.
“This bill that has been proposed to basically provide an annual report on these strikes will probably never pass, unfortunately, because of the amount of lobbying and the amount of actual control that the aerospace/defense companies have on the politicians,” he added.
Rickard also said that the criminals responsible for the death of civilians in US drone strikes should face trial like every other person but these people are “bypassing the justice system in order to quote, unquote ‘save lives’ of American people.”
