PressTV - 3 US-led soldiers killed in Afghanistan
Three US-led soldiers have been killed in northeastern and southern Afghanistan over the past 24 hours, Press TV reports on Thursday.
A French paratrooper was shot dead during an operation in northeastern Afghanistan while two other US-led soldiers perished following an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Southern Afghanistan.
The French presidential palace Elysee said the lieutenant paratrooper was shot dead by a militant during an operation in support of the Afghan army in Kapisa province. The nationalities of the other two soldiers and further details on the location of their death have been withheld.
More than 420 international troops, mostly Americans, have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year, while civilian casualties have been climbing sharply during the same period.
More than 2,702 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the foreign occupation of the country began nearly 10 years ago.
The security situation remains fragile in the war-torn Asian country despite the presence of about 150,000 US-led foreign troops.
The rising death toll of US-led foreign forces in Afghanistan has also prompted growing opposition to the Afghan war in NATO member states and other countries that have contributed troops to the military occupation.
