Afghanistan to discuss its
refugees’ legalization with
Iran
KABUL: A delegation would be sent to Iran soon to discus the cases of
those refugees residing in Iran without proper documents.
On the basis of reports, recently Iran has decided to takeout all the
Afghans without document while providing them the facilities inside
Afghanistan to register themselves and go back to Iran. The issue has
provoked refugees and Afghan officials’ concerns, therefore the
government of Afghanistan, in an effort to find a better solution will soon
travel to Iran to deal with the challenges and provide Afghan refugees with
better facilities.
Janan Mosazai, Spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that
the delegation will not spare any efforts to reach to the goal and make an
agreement with the Iranian side for legalization of illegal Afghan refugees in
Iran.
Speaking to a weekly briefing here on Sunday he said that the decision and
commitments will be made on the basis of mutual respect and benefit.
He didn’t elaborate about exact date of Afghan departure to Iran, but
mentioned that the delegation will be comprised of political deputy of MoFA
and other representatives of relevant ministries.
Currently around 2.5 million Afghan refugees are living in Iran, out of which,
some 1.4 million are without legal documents, he added.
It is worth mentioning that earlier Afghan refugees have claimed of facing
bad behavior of Iranian police and prohibition of their children going to
school.
